Yes the best way to fix that lawn is to cover the entire lawn with cardboard then get the local tree trimmer to dump a bunch of wood chips on it. Spread the wood chips over all the card board about 6” deep. Then plant fruit trees berries ground cover plants. And perennial vegetables. Well at least that’s what I’m doing.
Grass is not for shade. I add my vote for expanding the moss. If not that, another low growing ground cover.
I would say let the moss grow and replace the grass with something useful.
