The summer season ends for me (as the photo shows) at the last 'plant fair', at a wonderful old priory here in the UK. Do other countries have these events?

Up in northern USA we have almost finished all the plant sales now that weather is getting much colder. We still have harvest festivals going on for a little while.

I just attended the New Orleans Fall Garden Fest at the City Park botanical gardens. Even bought 5 rose bushes. 🙂 Here, it is not so much an end of gardening season event as it is the start of fall and winter gardening season. I sometimes still have a few rose blooms at Christmas. We have winter crops as well, which can't grow here in the hellish sauna we call summer, --carrots, broccoli, green peas, etc.

Thank you, I love hearing about other gardeners lives.

@Fernapple sure thing, variety is interesting. I grew up very near to Seattle, Washington, which I was always told has a rather similar climate to England. That is, cool and damp, but seldom bitterly cold, not anything like winter in much of the central and northeastern U.S. states.

We had all kinds of plant sales and exchanges everywhere in Dane Cty, WI, until a nasty hitchhiker ruined it.
Due to the invasive Asian jumping worm, we can no longer trade or sell plants that have been dug.
Many are now catered with annuals in pots, but I have always preferred perennials

That is very sad, I like perennials most of all myself, it would be a real blow if that happened here. Hope someone finds an answer for you.

@Fernapple
For now there are plenty of potted natives to go around, at nurseries and farmers markets. But I'll always my that neighborly, down home feeling of those neighborhood swaps and sales

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
