I used to have a lawn but as I spent so much time away it kinda changed to moss, which I removed but then it became dandelions, daises and buttercups with some kind of couch grass, which is why it is now stone chip and only needs the occasional blast with the leaf-blowerβ¦
I treasure the moss in my yard while it lasts, until summer heats up. It returns more beautifully each year to kick-start my spring.
I live where there is a homeowners association, and rules about what you can do in your yard. I'm sure if I let nature take over I'd be fined. And then there is the resale value. Americans value their costly expanses of green.
My HOA sent me a message about what I have on my porches . Since you can't see what's on the porches from the road , I sent them a message , if they provided more proof that they had been tresspassing on my property , I'd take legal action . I've had a lot less complaints , since then .
