The detail in blossoms is amazing! These are the Bear’s Breeches, fully opened, plus a few of my pink “Old Roses” with the heady perfume:

I'm fairly certain that your Bear's Breaches grow round here in our hot dry climate.

Gorgeous rose but those do not look like my pants. Like the emperor's, mine are made of fresh air. 😉

Never saw Bear's Breeches. Those are cool.

They are easy to grow but sometimes hard to get rid of.

@Carin I had read that, and would love for them to naturalize this area. They are at the base of a large cherry tree, adjoining several sword ferns,

@tinkercreek Perhaps they wouldn't be too invasive by me, north of Chicago. I'll probably give them a try some time.

Acanthus mollis. The leaves were the inspiration for the motif at the top of one style of column in ancient Roman architecture--the Corinthian style. I've always wondered why Acanthus mollis was chosen. Anyone know?

@Carin Perhaps because they look like this:

@tinkercreek Yes they are pretty; I just wondered if they had some special symbolism or meaning in Roman society or religion. I haven't heard of any medicinal properties or anything.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
