So great that your photos and information can help us all to help protect these fragile species, thank you!!!
Wow, very interesting. Just yesterday I was harvesting some Gooseberries and spotted a small white orb just like the one pictured. I wondered what that was. If I remember I will take a picture (it's raining today so it will have to wait a while).
Red Admiral used to be common around my home, but not seen one for a few years - I miss them
Plant, believe it or not, stinging or wood nettles. These support the larvae.
Also, you can plant false nettle (not dead nettle), which does not sting.
Red Admirals enjoy overripe fruit as well or even better than flowers. Try some banana and watermelon in a birdbath and watch what happens!
@Leafhead I have many plants supposed to attract them, lilac, buddlia, etc and leave a large back area of my garden to grow wils, with nettles, thistles, poppy, cornflower, and many flowering plants among the grass - all for wildlife....get foxes, voles, stoat rabbits, a buzzard and kestrel fly by to check it out ... see lots of insects, and invertebrates of indeterminate name ... but hardly a butterfly in site
You take such great pictures!!! I love to see them up close like that.
I was unusually lucky yesterday. Usually in this hot weather it is impossible to approach most butterflies (notice no Monarch shots, but they are everywhere).
I generally have better luck on cool sunny mornings while they are basking and still a little slow

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
