I've been fascinated with them ever since I happened upon one in a hedgerow in VA as a teenager. They are so xotic looking! Sadly, I had to leave 3 healthy saplings behind when i ran away from my husband last year. They were so hard to find, and then I really had a hard time making them happy for the first year.

I have found two varieties. One in a town called Bardin in Florida Palatka. It has fuzzy silvery leaves and likes Sandy soil. Another taller one at Ravine gardens State Park growing under a dense canopy with very glossy leaves. There is a woman who has a pawpaw farm somewhere in North Florida and she says she has about 8 varieties. Google it

Yes, there are about 14 species of pawpaw in Florida. None of them get as big as the pawpaw tree of the northwest. Two of the pawpaws are only found in central Florida, no where else on the planet.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
