And it is catalog season! I have used both Johnny's Selected Seeds and Pinetree seeds for years. JSS has a great selection of tools and supplies, and Pinetree has cheaper packets and a nice variety. They are both in Maine, as is Fedco--I have looked at their catalog but never bought from them. This year I am going to see how much I can buy from a few even smaller local seed companies that have stands in our hardware stores and garden centers. Any other favorites from folks? I am looking for a good source for dwarf fruit trees for espaliering. I have dealt with Henry Leuthardt in the past and was wondering if anyone had New Engand suggestions--I do not need them pre-trained, but looking for places with a lot of interesting varieties.

One year my daughter gave us a catalog "The Whole Seed Catalog." Talk about salivating. [rareseeds.com] a fantastic catalog that is really tempting.

I got lost in their catalogue first time I ordered it. I had them send one to my sister in Oregon, but she never said anything about it. She is an avid gardener.

@RussRAB We had a long wish list but never followed through.

@JackPedigo - It's very easy to do. I line in the area of Fort Worth and love to go to their Botanical Garden sales held twice a year. I go with the idea of not spending too much money but have never been able to follow through. It's a good thing it is only twice a year.

Buying from catalogues can be a similae experience except I can always pair down due to cost. I rarely buy everything initially selected when buying from one even when I think my original selections were conservative.

@RussRAB Another problem is that your area's growing condition is limited. My late partner had a garden in Plano but she could only work on it early mornings or late evenings during the summer. When she moved to the Pacific NW she thought she was in paradise.

@JackPedigo - and in between those morning and evening times, everything in the garden suffers from the heat. I have no doubt your partner was thrilled to be gardening somewhere other than here.

@RussRAB You have no idea. I have inherited 3 large gardens an orchard and a lot of work at a nearby Herbal Labyrinth.

Oh no! Time to exert self-control.
