I planted a ginkgo sapling a few days ago. Someone told me that if it’s a male you can plant anywhere but if it’s a female be careful. Seems the fruit from the female drops on the ground and quickly begins to smell like vomit!
I planted several hundred feet away from the house because I don’t know if it’s make or female.
Can’t wait to see how he/she turns out.
And it is already leafing out! One benefit of Central Texas planting!
Ginkos are just generally wonderful, great air cleaners! I haven't heard of that negative and wouldn't be concerned. Likely per what GlennLab says about nursery stock.
I have never grown one, but I distinctly remember being shown a special one as an exchange student to Germany in 1985. It was huge and growing in a courtyard in the town of Braunschweig. It was brought there by Marco Polo as a gift to the king from his historic trip to China in the late 13th century. That tree was over 700 years old! Which is why I remember it is an extremely long lived species.
Interesting, will you send pictures. I'm always looking for some new trees to plant on my property.
@Lightupmylife I have thought of Ginkgo before and will look into it. Sure it will grow in my area but need to see if any of the local nurseries stock it.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
