Placed this "petite" birdhouse in an ornamental cherry tree by our kitchen window. Hoping to entice a Carolina Wren pair to nest there.

Something made a nest under my grill/grill cover. The best is quite large and fully enclosed except the tiny opening.
Needless to say I didn't know it was there til I wanted to grill steaks... no grilling for a while...

So, an ornamental Cherry tree doesn't grow cherries?

Some grow "teeny-tiny" ones the birds like. Others, nope.

Usually an ornamental is grafted onto a hardy cherry. The ornamental doesn't live as long as a hardy but has masses of blooms. When mine died, the hardy part that the ornamental was grated to have grow 20-25 feet high, lots of blooms & cherries for the birds.

Got the measurements from the Audubon website. Supposedly, Carolina Wrens prefer small birdhouses. We've seen a pair at our feeders this year.

Hummingbirds are not cavity nesters.

I hope you're successful!

Thanks!
