I don't even go into that section never mind the labels. When in a checkout line I often mechanically look at the foods on the line and then at the customer. Often one can predict what is being bought and the shape of the customer. I think the only people who would feel any guilt from these labels would be children. Adults have pretty much become immune.
Another PETA sticker, tugging on your emotional heartstrings.
Yes I would... Although I generally eat mostly veggies, I do eat meat also...
It's an interesting perspective.
I have to respect those tapering off on red meat, as I have; most med science finds we eat too much of it.
Butchering is still a skill, and can be an expensive proposition.
While touring a mid-western cattle ranch last year, I asked the owner "what's holding back farmers from raising Buffalo" the answer wasn't the cost of the feed - it was the cost of the butchering harness.
Cattle can have their heads locked In rather inexpensively.
Buffalo, due to their almost missing neck and huge shoulders, need a very expensive harness.
Laws are now being considered and passed, allowing field slaughter. That way the animals aren't herded and guided in to slaughter locks....which builds up toxins in their flesh.
Once you've seen it...or have taken part in it...you "get it" and know that the best and smartest make sure that it's sudden and leaves the animal with little "suffering".
Those labels were slapped on the packaging by folk who I'm sure never experienced "butchering"; and it shows a bias of theirs...the animals aren't "named" - they are I.D. by number tags...and it's unkind and unfair of them to assign a name to the meat cut. They're trying to personalize this. That's wrong.
And it's a fact; taste is an acquired thing.
I do admire folk who've lowered or removed their taste for meat from their diet.
I've tried...I can't.
I appreciate your comment. I'm typically the person who needs to know where it comes from, so I can know they at the least lived a decent life. I don't eat much red meat in general because I found myself lethargic after eating it. However I will eat it if it's free of course.
While it is off topic, But your comment got me also thinking about about death penalty stuff and how we try to make it, at least in states, as painless as possible, which is crazy in itself. It's a whole other topic. But I would recommend the Stuff you should know podcast on that.
I haven't seen an animal be killed and have been interested. Ive had family pitch for a cow and they let them live their life until its about down and there's been times we've grown attached and could no kill them. They purposely try to name them food names or none at all.
I agree with you though. I have a hard time removing it completely from my diet. I'll enjoy it on occasions
This morning I held a 7 day old lamb! So sweet!!! It just occurred to me that I had lamb stew for lunch!
I do not buy dead animals. I am a vegetarian with compassion for my fellow animals.
Yep.
I do not succumb to emotional blackmail.
I don't either. I find it interesting that a store would let them have that on the packaging considering it COULD be detrimental to sales unless they know how most would react
@Jellosfriend Do you think the store put it on? I don't...there are vegan guerilla groups that do this sort of thing once in a while...notice it is not on the one behind...I think the store just did not catch it yet
@thinktwice Agreed. I don't think the store was aware at that point. As soon as they were, I'm sure they changed the packaging.
don't eat much farmed meat - my choice is local home reared animals that I know gad a good life - plus the occasional road killed deer that regularly get hit around here .. they usually get taken away and incinerated - which seems a waste.
Yes...In 4h we raised calves and sold them at auction...we ate chickens we picked out in the yard...
Very fresh. It's definitely got a better taste than packaged meat from a store
