Actually Einstein was NOT a Christian he thought of the universe itself as god.... Pan-deism was more his style...

He was Jewish by birth hence his escape to the west in the 30s
@glennlab He was only born Jewish... Later he rejected religion for Pan-deism...

@glennlab I read the first edition of his memoirs.... He in his own words said "I do not believe in the god of Christianity I believe in the god of Spinoza..." Spinoza was outcast by the Jews and proscribed by the pope for his beliefs and writings which outlined the idea of Pan-deism....
