Can anyone really be so clueless ?
Ah, now we're covering this in EU politics and the fall out of UK departure.
The loss of sovereignty from the UK has been an ongoing activity since 1940 when the UK required help from the USA and conditions were placed on the Lend-Lease agreements. In 1945 the Empire began a rapid decline having become the Commonwealth. India said bye, bye and trade with the Commonwealth entered a downturn which continued well into 1970s. The UK tried to enter the EEC several times and only succeeded after the death of DeGaulle. From then the British economy began to recover in real terms and survived the ups and downs of global economics better than most.
In ten days time, the British people start to regain sovereignty over their world and political future, but only in the same way as the passengers are the pilots of a kamikaze bomber.
In the current world, all countries surrender sovereignty to others and the bigger you are the greater the power you wield.
The UK will have to abide by EU rules without being able to argue our point. Net result, England & Wales have self defeated themselves.
More or less! I anticipate a rude awakening for the “let’s reclaim our sovereignty brigade”...and sooner rather than later! The trouble is the rest of us are going to have to suffer too!
Elect someone on a Little Englander ticket and that’s what you get! They remind me of turkeys voting for Xmas!!
The point in this country would be Turkeys voting for Thanksgiving (no thanks from the Turkeys).
@JackPedigo. Yes...but as this was posted in the U.K. group, I thought most would get the Xmas analogy better!
@Marionville I'm sure did. Did you remember my comment about a British friend saying there was Thanksgiving in the UK? It was the 4th of July. Not exactly Turkey time. Did the UK always have Turkeys for this time or was the Goose the bird of choice at one time?
@JackPedigo The Goose went out before the beginning of the 20th century, and it has been the Turkey at Xmas ever since. Everyone I know knows the 4th of July is Independence Day and Thanksgiving is the third Thursday in November (because it’s the day before the ghastly Black Friday).
@Marionville My friends comment was a joke (finally rid of that pesky yank colony). Haven't we've been here before?
@JackPedigo yes...I’m just a bit slow on the uptake today!
@Marionville Sounds like me sometimes. Too many things going on in our minds.
@JackPedigo More than likely!
If you read what she asked again, you will see that she was marely pointing out that between February first and December 31st the UK is still bound by EU regulations, but has no EU representation to complain about violations.
Yes...but that was predictable, these Brexit MEPs are total muppets and are incapable of thinking through the consequences of their actions. Farage never did anything constructive in all the years he was an MEP, only attending to disrupt. I bet the European MEPs will be glad to see the back of the lot of them.
And she wasn't aware of that?. I just hope their salaries stop being paid on 1 Feb 2020 and not 1 Jan 2021
@OwlInASack If you look at the YouGov figures for 2019 votes by education level, there's a very clear pattern to it. As education increases, support for Conservatives, Brexit and UKIP all fall away and support for Labour, Fib Dems and Green (and SNP) all rise. Of those with a degree or above, basically no-one voted for the Brexit Party and a not-very-high percentage voted Tory
@Jalnor I note you have no mention of Labour there. What is their education level? Then there's also the SNP, Plaid Cymru, etc.
Also, explain why the actual vote did not follow the yougov survey. Lib dems were slaughtered, as was the Brexit party. Labour also lost heavily. Following your logic, it would seem that Britain has suffered a huge decline in educational level.
Hold on - Britain has!

@Petter The educated city dwellers voted Labour in general. The SNP and Plaid Cymru have the added dimension of National identity to muddy the waters, but in the case of Scotland it voted overwhelmingly for SNP...so remain, and yes we are pretty well educated.
I remember 2010
Yeah, but they're still led by people who were entirely pally with the blues during that period. Or... last I looked. I don't know if whatsername got deposed after losing her seat up here. It's annoying, because I know some really great people at the bottom of the party, but the top has been colonised by soft Tories just like happened to Labour before Corbyn - and just like is in danger of happening again under Keir Starmer or half of the other candidates.
