Today is the 61st birthday of my favourite singer Morten Harket, vocalist with Norwegian band a-ha. He was born in Kongsberg in southern Norway on 14th September 1959 and in 1983 he and his fellow aspiring band members Magne Furuholmen and Pal Waaktaar left Oslo for London to try to break into the music business. They managed that to spectacular effect two years later when their debut single Take On Me took them to the #1 spot in 37 countries around the world. Morten has a voice which some say spans five octaves...he himself has modestly downplayed that by saying “I have never counted...I just go where the voice takes me”. He has perfect pitch and unlike many singers needs no autocue...here is a video of him when in the middle of an interview on German TV he’s asked about a forthcoming concert and he just picks up his guitar and sings part of one of the songs he will perform...not many top artists like him can or would sing impromptu on TV without rehearsal! How many favourite singers do you have, M? I wonder what the interviewer really thought. Anyway, not really my taste.

This is my favourite Male singer bar none...I think the interviewer was a fan, he has a very large following in Germany, in fact all over Europe. I have posted Morten many times before...including singing in Norwegian.
