I do not think that can let this day go by without reference to the passing of my cities favorite comics. For those who are not aware of Ken Dodd, He was one of the last great music hall acts to grace the stage. Although he had a reputation for being miserly with his money, he never was so with his time. Not only did he offer help and encouragement to young comics but he made it a point to play every theater in the UK. His way of thinking was " If the venues are there. The art will use them ".
I got to see him the xmas before last. The show was booked to last till 11.00pm but he was still on stage telling gags till gone 12. On of his jokes was " If you don`t laugh now. I will follow you home and shout jokes through your letterbox "

Here is just a snippet of his work

Did his Mam live to see him made a Sir? That would have made her day if she had.

Was it Ken Dodd who said "Tattifelarious"?

No and yes. He was only made a knight last year at 89. still performing though pretty much till the end. Odd thing is he married his partner of 40 years just 4 days ago.

@273kelvin Didn't want her to get his money until he died? I seem to remember something similarly odd about George Formby's relationship.

How old was he @273kelvin? Dear old (in my child's and teenage mind) Ken Dodd. How we used to talk at school about the Butty Mine at Knotty Ash ... never thinking that I would be in digs there one day! Mrs Ditchfield I think was the landlady's name. She was an elderly widow then and that was 50 years ago. We frequently had him performing in Blackpool during the summer holidays along with a lot of other top acts. Cilla was another frequent performer. Lovely memories - thanks for bringing them back.
