I don't follow Wired to much, at all. And the reason lay within the article. The article you posted lead me to 3 others all pointing fingers at Russia. When the narrative is to blame Russia these days I become very weary of an agenda towards perception management. And that's what I get from all the articles this one lead me to. First lead was the hack of the DNC. It hasn't been proven, and the data analysis from sources, "VIPS" and others highly qualified say it was a leak, not a hack. Data transfer was to quick to have been done from overseas or over the internet. The data transfer had to be done from within the DNC off of their servers onto most likely a thumbs drive. The second lead to me to the suggested hacking of a power grid. Around the same time the DNC story broke. That also had been debunked as a malware program that made its way to an employee lap top. The company long ago admitted this. It took only a couple of days to debunk that story and make the media look like the fools they are. An article for you to read below.

Russians Spooked by Nukes-Against-Cyber-Attack Policy

[consortiumnews.com]

(Moscow’s concern goes beyond rhetoric. Cyber-attacks are notoriously difficult to trace to the actual perpetrator and can be pinned easily on others in what we call “false-flag” operations. These can be highly destabilizing – not only in the strategic context, but in the political arena as well.)

In other words. When someone hacks into a computer they have the ability to leave false finger prints. They can make it look like another company or intelligence agency did the hack, covering up their own tracks. Only an amateur would be inexperience enough to be caught today. The Russians aren't going to leave their own finger prints on their work. In some cases a hacker will leave a certain finger print to become known by. Allowing law enforcement to know who they are dealing with on a mass scale. The problem then for law enforcement is to be able to trace the work to a certain place or computer the hacker is using. The NSA has the ability to intercept all electronic transmissions, to be able to do this type of hack today makes it a dangerous chore today. Now a hacker has to be able to mask his location expertly through a web of locations which takes a lot of knowledge. As I said before, if the narrative is being placed on the Russians, be weary of the information. It quite likely a case of perception management!

I had heard something about this but I heard they were blaming China. IMO Russia or I should say Putin is far more dangerous to the world than anyone realizes. If Russia and China decide they want to America is toast. The only thing that prevents that from happening is the rest of the world, other nations would ban together against them. Russia is not a stand alone country right now, if the bear could stand alone Putin would try to destroy America. This what makes trump so dangerous, the dismantling of our government makes us very vulnerable and mcconnell's curious behavior and connections to China are making me wonder who owns him.

A fantastic exposé. Thank you for sharing. I have always been very wary of the benefits of networking as it results in too great a spread /exposure of information that should be on a need to know basis only.
I recall 40 years ago a very large bank here in Australia wanting to create a system based upon the customer walking through the door. $AU20M was budgeted and the order went out to hire the best MBA's in the country. 2 IBM mainframes were bought and installed. 2½ years later $AU19M had been spent and the program had not been run in its entirety....one sector to manage and control debenture borrowing, a simple operation of I lend you $x for y term at an interest rate of z% paid quarterly was scheduled to produce 297 monthly reports requested by the operating administrators! The program ran for 24 hours and then crashed. A hasty overnight streamlining resulted in it running for 16 hours before crashing. At that point someone high up the food chain pulled the plug but the press release did not say that $AU19M had been wasted, OH NO $AU1M had been saved out of budget.
Despite the potential for human error it sounds like the simple method of independant stand alone machines loaded manually with totals to enable next stage processing may ultimately prove cheaper and a damn site more secure.
It does also point out that the little end user like the Sunday driver hasn't got a chance if billion dollar companies are taken down like this. I would also suspect that Chinese espionage and ability is just as dangerous.
Bill Gates will end up being remembered as the greatest threat to humanity since the bubonic plague and xtianity.

I haven't heard of this until now but ran research and found at least Wired and Zif Davis (ZDNet) reported on it. It does seem terrifying. The crippling of vast resources around the world in order to demand a ransom is one thing. If the powers that be ever get us all where they want us they could cripple everything via satellite and simply turn on and off areas they might need for there own purposes at will. Right now the idea is mining the wealth one way or another. If this last idea ever happens most of the world would literally live in the Dark Ages.
