To former believers. What was your perception of atheists while you were part of a religion?
itsmedammit comments on Oct 13, 2019:
I was never really a believer. As a kid, I just knew the whole god thing didn't make sense. I didn't think about what nonbelief meant about anything. But I knew that religious people went to church and that belief was the "standard" position and was associated with being "good".

You really do not "have to" accept anything that isn't YOUR decision. Please do not lower your sights for reaching complete happiness. I understand you have to pause and catch your breath occasionally. It is a real desireable skill to recognise when there is really not a problem. "Some problems are not solvable" Recognising the real limits of your time on earth is important but if you record what progress you make and tell the right people others will take up the fight after you.
Who amongst us is the most keen to spread the agnostic message?
YaAtEeh comments on Oct 10, 2019:
I'm not keen on spreading the message unless a discussion creates an opening. I usually see people's face cloud over as the discussion diverges from their own beliefs. It is all about someone else being ready to receive the message, so i look for that.
Mcflewster replies on Oct 11, 2019:
Some good points there giving you good feelings. I agree preaching any message must be stopped and no sermons. No you do have to be determined to give a message gently and often.
I know some people are going to fume but.

Mcflewster replies on Oct 11, 2019:
They really do a lot of research for me. Of course you have to be rock solid in your beliefs . Then you can sit back and let them carry on with their fantasies. Occasionally you make a killing point - but they are gagging for you to make a mistake. Progress in ridding ourselves of religion is bound to be slow.

Mcflewster replies on Oct 5, 2019:
"with science is that it in no way deals with moral or ethical implications" Science appears not to solve moral/ethical questions because massive numbers of people really do not realise what real science IS, and avoid investigating it. They enjoy just continued verbalisation and loose concepts that are called philosophy. Science could help to quicken the approach to any problem and it could help to prove the usefulness of a philosophers statement but they keep away from poling and only want to publish their next book, arguing with other philosophers on the way. Science is not and never will be a religion. The choice is yours. There is no such thing as scientism - only prejudice against science. Connection science & philosophy is historical and now defunct at least in my eyes.
