Are people that don't reason humans?
Mcflewster comments on Aug 12, 2019:
There are various laboratory blind tests going on in the computer world, particularly do with AI where a human operator is asked to judge whether at the other end of their communication link there is a Human or a programmed computer. Subjecting a person who cannot reason to these series of tests instead of the computer on test might shake them into thinking that they are just a machine and change their ways. It would certainly bar them from many public service jobs. Seriously though I have not found any literature that suggests how we can help people to reason. Leading people through lots of it would not necessarily work

Do you capitalize the g in god? I don't.
Mcflewster comments on Aug 10, 2019:
Would you always capitalize the H in Humanist ?(just supposing you were one) or the A in atheis.? etc It is purely a means of showing respect and telling others of your mode of thinking and displaying those thoughts for all to see. Also a means of getting others to follow one's method of respecting and thinking. The opposite is also true - to disrespect by de capitalising.
Look what I got done today!

Define Cult.... Define Religion.... Describe the differences:
Mcflewster comments on Aug 9, 2019:
My definitions: ** Religion** has arisen from the same human techniques as science -observation, hypothesis, conclusion, promotion etc. Unlike science they draw conclusions (or dogma) that cannot be continuously verified and updated, relying of ancient texts, sayings of prophets and FAITH- i.e belief which has no evidence. They try to conserve outdated thinking. You cannot say that about Football, so it is not a religion and many "Passions" fall into that category. Yes, a **cult** is the same as a religion but has additional inhuman restrictions on communication with loved ones and other non cult friends in an attempt to conserve obligations and practices.

What are your honest thoughts on astrology?
Mcflewster comments on Aug 6, 2019:
"Nothing will offend me because I already question it" This is a very good insertion into your opening sentences because it immediately says that you have an open mind. So many people put off questioning because they do not want to offend. You say that you have read science articles which defend Astrology and of course you want to defend your Mum. I have read things which say " A greater proportion of sportsmen/women are born at a certain season or month of the year" and then follow it with statistics. Can you send a link to another more"predictive" article that can be examined scientifically.?
Advertising atheism.
Mcflewster comments on Aug 6, 2019:
The difficulty I see about NOT advertising is that Religionists often, not always, have built in assumptions that everybody should be thinking like them. They Prosletyse and preach. I just wish atheists had the confidence to do that without them thinking that they are being prosletysed. i.e. concentrate on solving the problem without referring to ancient texts or relying on dogmatic things that they have been told.
‘Science does not try to undermine religion – religion is simply irrelevant to science’
Mcflewster comments on Aug 4, 2019:
I agree with a lot that has been said. How long we should tolerate religionists neglecting evidence is quite another matter. Religion DOES undermine science and in many situations at the extreme, religion does settle the matter by denying life chances

Mcflewster comments on Aug 3, 2019:
No one can test you to confirm that you are an atheist . It is a self certification procedure. If you say you are then most people of similar mind will trust and believe you until they find otherwise. This is quite different from the religions where you are told what to believe without evidence and with lack of trust in your own ability to think things out for yourself. No one will tell you how to be a Humanist, secularist etc because we arrive by our own volition and research. This difference in trust for simple human abilities to work things out for yourself is without doubt the source of your confusion. Saying that you are an atheist is just the start. Enjoy the freedom of the rest of your journey.

Mcflewster comments on Jul 31, 2019:
"We've always told you what to think, what to perceive, how dare you exhibit consciousness!!!" There are various ways of tackling religion depending upon how much tolerance you can draw together with a few friends. The secular way of doing the tackling is in my opinion an apartheid way of doing things and In my opinion is unlikely to work full time and forever. Religion is NOT going to be given up lightly. So I will not be following pure secular advice even though I see a lot of their work is useful in exposing the mistakes of religion. I would favor a more humanist tolerant approach based upon logical rational discussions (NOT debate as the problems are not always just two sided). I base all my future thinking about religion and the future on SCIENCE and scientific method - the latter being drawn into everyday and everyone's thinking as quickly as human society can assimilate it - more particularly into politics. Science has done so much to question and show up the glaring mistakes of religion already. In this respect one would not start a scientific investigation or announce results to quickly because you do not know that your answers will be right. Hence I call myself an Agnostic Humanists. So, you are in the right place here and as long as you call yourself a scientist ( without necessarily announcing it - you just use scientific method to reach your conclusions) you cannot go wrong - conscious or not. Then no one will tell you what to think - you just announce your conclusions and look for friends of the same thinking. The future is bright . PS Suggestion (not commandment) , GOOGLE "The Brights" .

What do you think the world be like with out religion?
Mcflewster comments on Jul 19, 2019:
The tendency to form one, to grab power and to dupe people would still be there. It is human nature as long as there are weak people there to submit. No catastrophic happening in nature will do anything but revive or deepen religion. So as I see it there are only three things that will rid us of religion. Unless they are worked on together nothing would happen. 1.) We must substitute whatever is considered good about religion with non religious work agencies. 2) Ensure that. there are sufficient calming and therapy initiatives to cover the whole population. 3) Ensure that no one is told what to do or believe through maintaining full democracy. Perhaps you know better.

Is Sport a Religion? | Psychology Today Australia
Mcflewster comments on Jul 8, 2019:
I define a religion as any organization [yes it needs people] that goes through the process of reaching decisions and then making them as unchanging as possible because ' they ' [the elders, including mythical spirits] made them usually in the distant past. Their conclusion often change with time. Sport has a mechanism for changing rules by agreement with (almost) everyone, so this allows it to fall outside my definition . Sport is just a fantastic human activity. Get over it. One does not need a god to improve one's self.

First let me thank you for introducing me to a new word "milquetoast". For the benefit of others only I reproduce an explanation here "Milquetoast" is a word that may be used either as an adjective or a noun to describe a person who is quiet, unwilling to defend themselves, generally submissive, and willing to let others tell them what to do and guide the situation. It can also, however, be used to describe an organization or larger body which is thought to be behaving in an on-the-fence, spineless, unassertive, or wavering way. It is a pejorative. Then let me try to get to the central point of your post. I think you are telling me that the task I have set myself will be a long arduous one. I have no delusions about that but one has to start somewhere. I have a blog if you are interested in helping. I would like to know what methods Jack Paterson used to fight Dean Boylan. The word research in Creation Research Society is misleading . UK citizens, Compare it with ERG in the Brexit mess. It suggest that they are doing real science when they are NOT. It is science which will eventually defeat these people. Everyone revising their science education whatever their age ?? What chance of that? Not in my lifetime.

I would add that the only powers we have are fundamental to the Human condition. They are present in the embryo but of course need experience to mature and to become valued and reach full potential. The most important include the set of processes known as science -which is all we need to get as close to the truth as we ever will. Of course powers of imagination and fantasy exist but they are not at all capable of changing reality except temporarily by human will.

Mcflewster comments on Jun 3, 2019:
What is important is that humans are continuously shown to be able to cope in any situation. Is that the same as being dignified or justified? . It is not that they should be raised above any other human being - just that they should not be coerced or made to submit in any way because humans can solve problems together.

Mcflewster comments on May 27, 2019:
From Wiki The simulation hypothesis or simulation theory proposes that all of reality, including the Earth and the universe, is in fact an artificial simulation, most likely a computer simulation. Some versions rely on the development of a simulated reality, a proposed technology that would seem realistic enough to convince its inhabitants the simulation was real. The hypothesis has been a central plot device of many science fiction stories and films. Suitable only for conspiracy theorists. A class of their own making.

All that I can affirm is that the processes of science can be established at any stage or age of life . Basically one has to re-establish the instinctual processes that were present at birth and squashed out of most people. One does NOT have to have science done for you, which does not mean that you cannot repeat it so as to improve it. Whereas for philosophy one has to plow through not only countless philosophers, their followers and dissenters, their quotable quotes and their theses. There is hardly any "testing point" during philosophy. The public has no hope of catching up so end up with only the quotable quotes or memes.

Does ' nature ' belong in the science field or the spiritual field?

Unfortunately Humanist (UK) does not have a public forum, but you would get a sympathetic answer from their info@
And now for something completely different from Brexit.

We look as near to making a decision on this as we do to resolving Brexit.

All I want at the moment is a second referendum and there is no moral reason why it should not happen.
Thought we all needed something funny to cheer us up during this tense Brexit.

[dailymail.co.uk] All is saved guys. Yuri is on the case to stop Brexit.
Mcflewster comments on Mar 25, 2019:
You will be pleased to know that apart from the stopping of Brexit , Yuri has bestowed another great gift upon the nation. If you watched GMB this am you would have learned two things> 1) The stop is going to be achieved by everyone in the Remain camp thinking hard and saying from now onwards at 11:11 am and pm every 24 hours "Give us a second Vote" [ Remember that alone would not stop it] 2) This will not work unless you believe that Yuri gave us a previous gift 3 yeas ago. He lived in the same village as Mrs May at that time, but has now sold it -with great difficulty. The main part of the gift story is that he invited Mrs May over to his house for tea and afterwards took her into the garage to the bewilderment of Mrs May. However from somewhere in the garage he unearthed a spoon. He must have a ready supply. He told her to grasp the spoon whilst telling her that the spoon once belonged to Winston Churchill. While she was concentrating hard he told her "Theresa, One day you will be Prime Minister" . She obviously protested but went on her way. So Gee Thanks, Yuri you are part of the whole thing ! He did swear his allegiance to the UK and that his mother was buried in the village and was thanked heartily by Piers Morgan. There is so much in this Yuri story that tells you how prophets really work. Personally I prefer the legitimate Derren Brown. We must remember that Darren and Yuri are both entertainers yet quite different from each other Most prophets were NOT entertainers but serious.
The Logic of Indecision: If you say you are agnostic, you are saying that you do not know, but ...
Mcflewster comments on Mar 22, 2019:
IMO all three AGNOSTIC ; ATHEIST and UNDECIDED are all logical and strong positions , but at least you are pointing out that there are differences between them as many people think they all (or a pair of them) are the same. I would say that AGNOSTIC is the best position perhaps because it is most flexible - awaiting the discovery of future facts. Just choose the one you are most comfortable with . Worry does not help choices. and await further developments.
Awesome moment at work.

Mcflewster comments on Mar 20, 2019:
"truth is determined by the concept of logical necessity developed by philosophy" But scientific method and logic were there already waiting to be discovered analyzed and spread from the wiring mechanisms within brains. True philosophers gave some brains a whirl but is that the same as developing it? i.e without any understanding of how the brain works?
Is it possible to fall in love with someone with opposing political views?

Best relationships are those which compliment each other. Lock and key.
This must be the time of the greatest number of political agnostics throughout history.

My suggestion for a shortest .preparation for a new vote Please vote above Designate ONLY two organizations to promote LEAVE/REMAIN Each side makes a 20 min video putting facts and some possible future procedures forward. Each side shows the other side their Video in secret Each side prepares a 10 minute rebuttal video and joins them to make a 30 minute video The combined videos are shown as a one hour presentation on all television channels An unbiased organization produces 2 min clip videos from randomly selected panel of ordinary voters . The above are combined into a 1 hour video shown the next night again on all channels. Have the vote soon after This suggestion can be improved with more checks and balances at various points

Surely if you are wrong then any kindness shown is actually only temporary. [It is wrong not to think about them both together] **or** [It is correct to think about them together and delay before acting out the kindness]

It's not our differences that are th problem, it's our inability to accept and celebrate them.
Mcflewster comments on Mar 5, 2019:
I celebrate lots of differences. The world would be dull without them, but most of all I celebrate educational differences. Mixed ability teaching . Not easy in my subject ....Chemistry. It is the lot lower down the ability scales that stops everything being concentrated on the lot at the top, FOR THE BENEFIT of all the big lot in the middle. The lot at the top can manage on their own anyway.
Just in case you were not already confused.
