I was never brought up with any religion as a kid, so I was never a believer. But I've been living in a mostly Christian area for the last decade or so. I do have some friends that are believers, but we get along great, we just never bring up our beliefs to each other.Problem is that most others judge me as a horrible person, and that I'm going to hell, how can I have morals with out god. etc. I saw this site, and thought it would be great to be at a place where I can chat with others that have the same thoughts about god and religion.
I've been told that I have a big heart. I don't know if it's true or not but i try to do what I can to help others.
I also have a great sense of humor, and I like being around others that do as well.

Interesting read on Gen Xer's.
TristanNuvo comments on Jun 12, 2018:
I was born in 64, so I am right on the cusp between Baby boomers, and Gen-xer's. It's been odd groing up, and still even through adulthood. I remember rotery dialed telephones, pay phones that cost a dime, leaded gasoline, and such. And yet I was still young enough to grow with the new, for example, I got to listen to some great music through the 80's, and yet I was old enough to know that most of the hits in the 80's were in fact covers of tunes. I could go on, and about how things have changed, and how tec has grown through the years but that could take weeks. One thing though, most of the I know that I know that my same age are stuck in the 70's or 80's music wise, but I've never been able to live like that. I have always been one of those that looked for something new music wise all the time, I always love to be turned on to new stuff. I hope that never goes away.

TristanNuvo comments on Mar 9, 2019:
Yup, did all of that when I was a kid. Moved to Florida back in the day so other than the mowing, wasn't part of my world. But just the same, honest work for friends, and family was just apart of life. Sad to know that isn't the staple these days.
What are the best and/or your favorite musicians of all time?

TristanNuvo comments on Oct 3, 2018:
I rather enjoy being single. Not to say that Haven't enjoyed most of my relationships, but I seem to favor hanging with my friends, or just alone these days. TristanNuvo comments on May 11, 2019:
Although I am a lefty, I wasn't really sure about the right or left brained concept. So I went and too a few so called "tests" to find out. I took a few just to try to get an average. But in all cases I seem to be split 50/50 Right/ Left. Not quite sure what that really means, but I do have to add that I am diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, and I'm not sure that correlates with either. But, there it is.
Ready for the show tomorrow.
TristanNuvo comments on Feb 22, 2019:
Over the years I've been a proud owner of such classics as a 59, and a 68 Strat, and many others. But I do have to add that my Ibanez RG550, and my Gem, trump all of them. A maqtter of personal preference I guess. but once I was able to get the same David Gilmore sound out a different guitar, plus a myriad of other sounds from the same guitar, I was hooked. To each is own, but since I've been playing Ibanez, I have had a great love romance with those guitars. JMHO.
I just made level 7.

TristanNuvo comments on Jul 19, 2018:
Oh man. It's really hard to say. a few friends and I used to go to a bajillion clubs and barsto see all kind of punk bands back then. If I had to guess it would have to be the Ramones at CBGB's. I think my first real concert though was around 1884 at the New Haven collisium. It was Metallica's Master of Puppets, opening up for Ozzy's Ultimate sin tour. So I can actually say that I got to see Cliff Burten while he was still alive.

TristanNuvo comments on Jul 7, 2018:
Not sure what to tell you. I have on my profile that I'm not interested in dating, I had enough of that in my younger years. Now I'm all about good conversation. I was very happy to find this place with like minded people. I've been a member of quite a few blog sites, made some good friends. but most of the time when I posted about evolution, god, religion etc. the comments always turned into a troll fest. Here I don't get that. here almost all of the people I've met are very kind, even if they might disagree.

Who's your favorite Christian band?
TristanNuvo comments on Nov 18, 2018:
I've never been a fan of Christian bands. However there has been an abundance of classical music over the years that was about, or inspired by their belief in god. I honestly don't share their belief, but some unbelievably beautiful music written buy such composers.

Lord of the rings, and the Hobbit. Over the years I've re read those books many times over.
I always felt it was child abuse, even as a child.
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 10, 2018:
This is exactly how my father treated me. He was very abusive to me, not just physical, but mentally as well. Aside from that I was diagnosed with schizo-affective disorder, which means I hear and see things that are not really there, major depression, suicidal thoughts, and a few other things. And it gets worse the older I get. Now I hear voices telling me the same things that my father did. saying things like, you are broken, damaged, a waste of space, that I am a burden on every one I know, so I should just end it all. Thankfully, as Dr's. and therapists over the years have come to know much more about the disorder, and the medication has improved. Plus the therapy I get, And I use it very much, I've learned coping skills, and tools to combat the depression, and voices, halucinations etc. I'f it weren't for that I would probably be dead by now, but thankfully, I've been progressing a lot better. I actually love life, and being able to cope with that disorder better makes the loving life much easier.

TristanNuvo comments on Sep 27, 2018:
Of the friends I have, some are believers, some are not. Yet we all get along very well. Just because we believe, or not believe in different things, has no bearing on our friendship. We value each other for the person that we are. Honestly, I don't care what anothers belief is. If they are good people, well, that's good enough for me. Given of course that one or both of you don't try to force each other to belilieve, or try to ridicule the other, I don't see why it would mater.

What's the biggest physical turn-off when looking for a mate?
TristanNuvo comments on Jun 18, 2018:
Over the years ago I had many girlfriends. Some were just about sex, some were because we had similar interests. but growing older I've come to realize that I don't have the need to have a romantic partner to enjoy life. I've learned that I respect the friends of mine for what they are. In my book good people are good people. It doesn't matter their political beliefs, religious beliefs etc. So to answer your question, I don't have a so called thing that I have as a "turn off". I alway tend to value those that are helpful to others, and are kind to animals, and are honest to me and themselves.
So what is the main reason most of you are on here?
TristanNuvo comments on Jun 16, 2018:
I'm here for the conversations. I gave up the whole dating thing a while back.

That lineup included greats such as Chris Falrey, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler,Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, to name a few. Yeah there have been some great single talents like Will Farrel, Molly Shannon, and others. But an entire outstanding crew, I think those two groups were the pinnacle. JMHO.

Atheists by definition don't believe in magic. But one can be inspired, even be in awe of learning what nature and the universe is. From the late great Carl Sagan. "I don't want to believe, I want to know". and learning something new to me is rather exciting. The last thing I would ever think of life as being boring.

For me it's bitter sweet. I have a lot of friends from where I grew up with in CT. that I have kept in touch with, and I also have some friends I knoe from another blog site that we actually got to meet IRL. Usually they will come down to Clearwater Florida, where I live, which is great. There is a tone to do here, from the great beaches, to fishing in the Gulf, to that many restaurants ( seafood mostly), to sailing and viewing dolphins etc. I live when they all come down, and it's great that my new friends and old get along rather well. But when they all leave I sort of feel hollow. I hate that feeling.

TristanNuvo comments on Oct 31, 2018:
I actually don't own a TV. I watch everything on my PC, plus I have a pretty big monitor. I download, and stream everything. As far as shows go. Some aren't on any more but to name a few. Dexter. Mythbusters, (the original). Game of thrones. Battlestar Galactica, (the 2006 version). I'm sure there are more, I just can't remember atm.

TristanNuvo comments on Jul 19, 2018:
I wouldn't know how to 'fix' any of those. But I do try to help the homeless. I volunteer at a homeless shelter. It's called Pinellas Hope. there around 500 people here, most are vets. This place is really great because it's not just a place to stay, we have GED classes, a computer room so people can apply for benifits, food stamps, jobs etc. There are personal councelors, Therapists, AA meetings. There is a mobile med that comes every wednesday as well. The goal here is go help people get back on their feet, and it works very well. The place is very well known so we get donations all the time. things like blankets, clothes, food etc. There a lot of organizations that come here and bring lunch, or dinner for every one. I wish there were a lot more places like this.

I was taught at an early age the value of using the Scientific method for learning anything. For the most part that was apparent in the way my classes went from Math, to History, to Chemistry, and every thing in between. They didn't just give us a book, told to read a chapter, memorize it then take a test one it. That I believe is probably the worst way to teach someone. Instead, they would give us a topic, or a problem to solve, to do the experiments to get our own findings. then present them. Which to me was the best way I could think of to get children to learn, to actually go and test, or research for ourselves. Even if we were wrong in our findings, there was the experiencing of learning from ours or others. Even better, we learned to question everything, never assume. I don't know how or why most school systems don't do that any more, but it is very frustrating to see the decline in many people that can not even comprehend critical thinking. And with this being the so called 'information age'.I see it get mis-used way too much. With the ability to have virtually learn every thing there is to learn with a few clicks of a mouse. But instead, way too many would rather just post a picture af a cat that says something funny on facebook, and then wait for the 50 'likes' that follow. Even worse, a lot of times I will see people not having a sense of critical thinking will give the same weight to a paper written by someone with a Doctorate, as they would from some conspiracy theory nut job living in their moms basement. Sorry for the long rant, this topic just strikes a sore nerve with me.
Doubt vs gullibilty

I've mentioned this in another post a bit ago. I find that planting seeds works wonders. i've had conversations with many believers, some are great friends. I learned that it's never a good thing to try and force any one to think differently than they do. However, what I do is listen to what they have to say. Then I'll say how I view things politely. Some times it gets into a great conversation. But I think that a lot of believers, especially the very religious have been mislead at what an Atheist, or non-believer is like. for instance i've heard from many that said things like, you seem very nice, and not judgemental, you seem to enjoy life, and you seem like a nice person, I would not have thought that. That seed of showing that their misconceptions about Atheists were not what they were told. That kind of seed has the potential to have a believer take pause and think. I've known many because of that, ended up questioning their own beliefs.
Any other fellow dudes or dudettes in here?

Aron Ra is one of my favorites. I love the relationship with him and others, mainly Matt dili9hunty. The two of them paired together make a powerhouse of information.
I say this every year!

The Weird, Ever-Evolving Story of Your DNA - The Atlantic

My bacground is mostly math and phyiccs, but I have been godsmacked be the advances that have been made of breaking down genes, and dna. One of the things I found interesting is that the head of the Genom Progect, Francis Sellers Collins. is actually a theist. the one thing I get from that is that Science supercieds biblical text. Theist or not, I am happy beond words that we have been able to unravel the building blocks of evolution, and the data keeps on going. so the creationists have continualy less, and lest to stand on.
