I'm autistic and I think that we're more likely to be atheist because we aren't as easily influenced by peer pressure as normal people. I think that the main reason that most people are religious is because, well, most people are religious...lol. What I mean by that is that most people will simply believe in the same as all of their friends and family, whereas autistic people are less concerned with what others think and are more likely to think for themselves.

My friend’s adult son is autistic, quite high functioning. He goes to church and hangs out with friends from his church groups. His parents don’t go to church. I’m not quite sure if he really gets the concept of God and religion but he enjoys the company of his friends. He’s quite social for an autistic individual.

I cannot start to answer this question. I know little of autistic people except for the fact that there is no evidence of vaccination causing their condition.

Yes. I need to see evidence.

People With Autism Are More Likely to Be Atheists [huffingtonpost.com] via @HuffPostScience

My husband has autism. He agrees it's harder for him to just accept certain things outright. That's why he knows so much about religion in general - he read everything he could find and concluded that it was all mythology.

I probably would be considered atheist I just like the word agnostic better. At one point in history. Atheist, was the terminology for anyone that was not Christian.

I prefer to use nontheist, but as I identify myself as a Humanist that is what I usually call myself.
