That a HA moment. I remember as a child praying every night to some false idol. I went to Catholic school. As the years grew bye , I slowly stopped praying, I found I didn't get better grades, or the horse I wanted. ( Forget that I lived in a big city). It just didnt mean anything.

Fast forward to being 19 years old and I was hiking in Yosemite park. I drove until there were no roads and had hiked miles from anywhere.

As I listened, I heard no cars, no planes, no people. Just the sound of the wind blowing through the mountain pass. It was that moment that I got my one ness with nature.

And its been that way ever since. Whenever a day sucks, I get outside and walk. Even though I live in Suburbia, I can find a great walk with geese, ducks, swans and hawks. I am certain the great blue heron looks for and recognizes me and my voice.

How about you, anyone else ever find this ?

I always fell that way when I'm in the woods, that is my church !

Yes, often. Especially in forests.

The first morning I woke in the Masai Mara (Kenya)...went out and saw who lived and who died overnight...I realized PROFOUNDLY that every living thing evolved to feed something else and felt a deep sense of regret that we've taken ourselves out of the natural order of things...to our detriment!

Indeed . We also live indoors and loose touch with all of nature.

@lucyloohoo congrats on living until 100! 🙂

@Bigwavedave 🙂 Well...that's the ''oldest'' age I could find.

One never sees god in settings like you describe, or in ANY setting for that matter, but one sees the beauty and wonder of nature everywhere at all time.

Very well said

I can remember that same feeling. When I was younger a few friends and I used to travel to Vermont to ski. Take the ride to the top, and just stay up there for a while and soak it all in. like you said there was no sounds other that the wind through the pine trees, and the freshness of the air. And the view was more that I have the words for.

I've lived in Florida for a long while, so I don't get to ski, or climb high mountian trails any more. But there is still another sense of oneness with nature by going to the beach. Just feeling the nice breeze, and the sound of the waves is very calming.

Well Florida has amazing birds

@Bigwavedave I agree, we also have dolphins. They love to swim with boats. I've had the pleasure of going sailing with some friends and got to see that in person. Dolphins are not only beautiful animals, but the love to play. I don't even have the words to describe how wonderful it is to see them up close.

Not exactly like your story...but I do feel that oneness with nature, when I am out there! I had a similar moment far away from civilization on a ridge in Southwest Texas when the sound of silence was overwhelming! I love the sound of silence!

Being in awe of and feeling at one with nature makes more sense than looking to some invisible entity beyond the clouds.

The smell of the ocean and the sound of the waves, the morning mist rising over the mountains, the embers glowing in a campfire waiting for another log to flame back up. The sights and sounds of nature, fierce and yet tranquil. Yeah, I feel ya and know exactly what you mean.

And the believers say see what beauty he created...sigh

Nature works for me.

In wildness is the preservation of the world
