On a recent trip to my local library I found out that there is such thing as " Christian fiction ". It was confusing and hilarious to me.

Some Christian friends once gave me a fiction book that on the face of it looked like a normal sci-fi/fantasy. When started to read it, it turned out to be a story imagining the rapture with people disappearing all over the place, seemingly at random. The narrative delved into the past and beliefs of those that weren't 'chosen' to justify the mayhem that ensued. It baffled me!

Christian fiction, sounds like that phrase came from the Department of redundancy Department.

Christian fiction - like Christian music - is so unbearably bland. I write. I read a lot of writing. And here's the thing - to deliberately blunt the edge of writing to make it fit into a white-bread, Middle American, patriarchal, golf-scramble centric religious take on a homeless Jew who wandered the streets with 12 guys and an unmarried woman could turn the best idea on earth into brain tapioca.

As a librarian, I read some Christian fiction professionally. I got annoyed how the narrative would stop dead just so that the characters could sing a hymn or say a prayer. But like Christian rock bands, I find them pretty boring, and usually not very well written.

I’d say it’s ALL fiction!

I got kicked out of a barnes and noble for putting all the bibles in that section.

Is that the same as fiction fiction?????

so the redundancy must be strong there

Anything like “alternative facts”?

Considering that it's ALL fiction, I can understand your confusion, and amusement.

It's a massive market. BIG BUCKS

2

Did you immediately try to find The Bible and put it in that section?

Yes! Please do this!

Librarian says please don't. It's not funny. It's not clever. It just creates work for people who are underpaid and have to deal with nonsense like this every day. How is this different from someone hiding a book on homosexuality because they think it's a sin?

Check out the ‘Left Behind’ series: xtian Armageddon porn. Scary that they WANT this to happen.

I read all of those once upon a time, because I had a massive crush on Kirk Cameron as a kid and didn't realize he had taken control of the crazy train. If you view it as pure fiction, and don't stop to think "billions of people believe this shit," it's not the worst as far as dystopian fiction goes. Not the best... But not the worst.

I worked with a guy once who was into the end times and he was really itching to get his Uzi and blow all of us non believers away.

@starwatcher-al Right? Is that not crazy?

@CarolinaGirl60 His wife who bore 7 children for him and raised them all christian has left him and he is mystified as to why.!!! One of his boys was smuggling bibles into China and he was proud of that.

I somehow wound up with one of those books on my Kindle. (Don't ask...I ordered the wrong ''free book" ) Anyhow, it was ludicrous. The sex scenes involved holding hands, chaste kissing and promising one another that they'd remain ''pure'' for each other. RIIIIGHT!

Seems redundant.
