I don't believe in it but we Virgos tend to be skeptical.

This made me laugh!!

@antman Me, too!

It can be entertaing and fun. It is not dangerous like religion. So who cares? People that get irate over astrology are just people looking to be pissed off at something. If you have a cool sign like Aries (me), it can work for you. If you are a guy, and you are a Virgo, yeah, l wouldn't bring that up. ?

3

Astrology is not real. It has entertainment value only.

Yup...load of nonsense! What DOES interest me is the variety of ''constellations'' humans have constructed over time. If you've ever seen the night sky in a place like Mongolia or the Masai Mara, Patagonia, etc....you know how many gazillions stars you see. The fact that people actually studied those star patterns and invented meaningful FIGURES up there is gobsmacking!

When I think back to the ancient Greeks and romans and the Chinese. What they did with limited tools to fathom things out was amazing.

@antman ESPECIALLY considering that constellations ''move'' and so it would take a LONG time and much dedication to track them...invent a ''star map'' and decide what it represented. How about the ancient people of the south seas...who could navigate without a compass, simply by following stars? WOW. (Wonder how many died, following the "wrong" stars?)

A super load of horse shit. Take any astrology list, ask someone what there sign is, and then read a different sign and tell them it's theres. They will say "yeah that's sound like me!" Tell them you read them a different sign. They are all generic enough to fit everybody. It's a scam, just like religion.

3

It's entertaining. I am a sensitive Pisces and I do like the water. But sometimes their readings are a little fishy. It;s like I'm running around in an XFiles T-Shirt saying, "I want to believe."

3

Yes nonsense. Hocus pocus just like horoscopes

Well, it IS horoscopes. They mean the same thing.

3

Ranks right up there with chicken guts and tea leaves.

I used to like this girl before. And she told me we can never date because our zodiac signs are not a match. I thought she was joking but then I realized she was serious and she really believed this thing. We're really good friends now but we don't live close by anymore. The last time I saw her she was telling me about her BF and she is like "He is also Taurus, like you". And I started laughing "So you can date him but not me, life's not fair"... So my point is - yes astrology is bullshit

Sounds like you escaped a future crazy to me. Lucky man!!

@antman Haha she is pretty reasonable in general but when she talks about astrology my head starts hurting haha!

I get shunned when I've said that Im a Scorpio. According to legend we are hugely mean, dangerous, and like screwing a lot? I'd say I'm the meanest nice person ya ever wanna meet. And the most loyal. Like a Cocker Spaniel. But I am capable of being your best soldier in battle for a trusted friend. Don't think that has anything to do with astrology, but everything to do with what I think important. shrug

Its a series of rudimentary to mediocre confidence scam techniques (like cold reads and the use of vague generalities to land a 'hit'😉 wrapped in mysticism. The 'discovery' of a heretofore unmentioned 13th zodiac sign lost in translation for centuries completely refutes and neutralizes any hope for validity.

And like ALL forms of divination, it is simply a tool to trick your conscious mind into distraction so you can arrive at a solution to a problem by moving the flow of information from executive channels into suggestive channels, which have fewer 'yeah but' defenses.

2

More nonsense. The planets line up differently from every point of view which is infinite, so which line up is correct, plus the planets rotate and move in orbits, so the positions are always changing.

2

Load of bollocks.

2

Yes, nasty nonsense.

However, taking a clean sheet of paper approach, I could entertain the notion that there might be some trends or patterns as to the time of year that you are born and some personal traits. It could be anything from when a person's parents chose to conceive (eg: after a nice Christmas bonus) to whether you had to begin the school year as young or old for your grade, etc. So, this doesn't yield anything as satisfying and granular as "you will have thus-and-such experience today", but it would be interesting to see some reputable study on this.

As an amateur astronomer, knowing the signs of the zodiac, as they pertain to the constellations and the precession of the equinoxes is clearly important, but that is all I pay attention to. Believers in astrology are not too different from religious adherents, or those who believe in fortune telling, healing magnets, conspiracy theories, homeopathic treatments, anti-vaxers and anti-GMO'ers.

2

Yes along with alchemy, creationism, hydroplate. Etc.

Have you ever answered questions about what your thought of this or that? And then told you are this type of person. It is found in some businesses and governments. It is an attempt by management to determine the best mix of people. It can be harmless or devastating. I call this 'pigeon-holing'; and attempt to put round pegs in square holes. Most of the time it will fit, but it never fits everyone. Astrological traits are a similar attempt to attribute qualities to people. Modern astrology is wrong anyway -- it uses fixed dates, rather than the actual constellations and there are 13, not 12 signs.

Nonsense. In fact the signs used are based on configuration of the universe 2000+ years ago and have shifted so if you were born in what is called the Gemini sign you were actually born in the Cancer sign. I think I am correct in the shift direction haven't done much research on it.

This is correct, due to precession. The Earth remains tilted to the plain of the solar system the same amount, but actually spins around like wobbling top over time. In the future, the North Start will no longer be the North Star, replaced by whatever star the north pole points to at a given era, if any. I may have the number wrong, but I believe it takes 26,000 year to complete a wobble. So yes, the original constellations backing the Zodiac are all out of sync.

@godef Thank you for the replies. My knowledge has been increased and I like that.

2

I have never followed astrology. I don't even know all of the signs of all of my kids.

Lol me too

2

Yeah, but it's fun.

2

Yes, I believe it to be just nonsense.

2

I think so but a large portion of important women in my life have been Scorpios...

antman Level 7 July 22, 2018

Just coincidence.

@JohnDublin I was just realizing I don’t know. Will have to ask.

@JohnDublin, @Quazi my mom, my wife, and most of my girlfriends....all scorpios...

1

I don’t believe in it myself but I think it’s fun anyway. At least there is no guilt or hell or any other bullshit that other religions put upon you..

1

For entertainment purposes only! A warning that should be printed on communion waffers as well.

Astrology was the mother of astronomy. That said, astrology is utter nonsense, but I owe the folks who thought stars and planets, and the moon and sun had some bearing on the lives of people a debt of gratitude. Why? Because of their pursuit of utter nonsense, a science was born from which answers have flowed and continue to do so.

@CoastRiderBill -- that is what I said. They made highly accurate observations, the observational astronomy. The difference came in the motivation for making those observations. Astrology was the mother of astronomy.
