When you reject a belief system, it's not because you don't know about it. It's because you studied it, saw the flaws, the out and out lies, and the editing by various Popes. You came to understand that god was not going to help you. You saw the innocent sacrificed by the wicked with impunity. The innocent perished, the wicked flourished. If god is not going to help me personally, why would I care what his will is?

It seems backwards to me that agnostics and atheists are asked to justify their lack of belief instead of religious people being tasked with justifying what they think. As an atheist, I don't have a religious belief. And I don't feel I need to explain why. I see religious people as participating in unnatural behavior, and feel that they should have to justify their positions, especially when they act to influence me. Atheist are not out trying to burn down churches.

@Scoobs please don't put words in my mouth, it's very unsanitary. Active disbelief sounds oxymoronic and exactly fails to describe my atheism. I am not advocating for anything except maybe that there is altogether to much advocating going on.

@Scoobs wow! You seem to be gifted at saying nothing at all with such eloquence! What you are smelling my be your own farts. You have me holding my nose that much is true. There is no god. And everyone who thinks there is is perfectly entitled to do so. None of that burdens me in any way. Nor do you.

The reason it can't help you is that it isn't there. Believe in yourself, not the magical sky man. You can help yourself because you actually exist.

Bit like Brexit and many, now ex, Brexiteers

I've heard it said by many people.
"the easiest way to turn some one into an Atheist, is to have them read the whole bible".

I read it at 12 and again at 19. I found it largely boring, contradicting, and awful. God is not particularly good to people he claims to like. But loving people? No. Taking care of people? No.
The "GOD BLESS AMERICA" crap that popped up after 9/11 cracks me up. If god were taking care of 'bidness, 9/11 would never have happened.

@ForTheBirds I was lucky, i wasn't brought up in a religious household, so I've been a non-believer all of my life.
I never gave it much thought to it until places like Youtube came around, and there were all these debates about a belief, or non-belief that got my interest.
So just out of curiosity I read the whole book.
All I could think of was, this is the stupidest thing ever written down. And then dumbfounded at the notion that people actually believe this crap.

I had to look after my very mad parents as a child, mainly keeping the peace. Manic mother Depressive fathe;r the idea that any sky god was lookin thing out for me when I could be toast any moment wasn't very comforting - I have never believed and its amazing the amount of things you can disbelieve - love & hate for example. the idea that we are all equal - I could go on forever ......my disbelief is infinite.

As merely a lump of flesh receiving electric signals to inform you of the world around you in the form of imagined sound, image and emotive responses, filtered through predjudice and fear, through drives like sex, hunger and avarice to create the world you preceive, how can you believe anything beyond, I think therefore I am? And you think that is air you are breathing???

@Savage I'm breathing 21% O2 and exhaling 17% O2 and CO2. The balance of what we think of as " AIR " is inert gases. I used to know what the other gasses are, but it's not useful information.

Um, wellllll, I wouldn't say I did all that, but I did experience an epiphany one day and realized it/god/religion was all a a bunch of bullshit? ?

We attended lots of sunday morning stuff with our then current classmates, and friends.

My father was always negative about all religious presentations. My mother never seemed to care.

So, i had not preparation to learn that the way too many people on the planet consisted of mostly mentally ill homo-sapiens.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Intelligent people reject a belief system only after they have studied it. Unintelligent people reject a belief system because of social pressures or because the dogma they believe in tells them to reject it.

I agree...give me reason and logic or keep it, for yourself!

@Scoobs it is not faith that I use to determine reason and logic...it is evidence. Which may even change, if new evidence comes to light.

@Scoobs you can have it your way...I am not a scientist, just a lay person, studying and evaluating what is presented! I do however, have a life long habit of taking in everything that crosses my path. I can use that when necessary.

@Scoobs I am an INFJ, with 80% intuition, you can figure it out!

@Scoobs ...so why are you dismissing the ‘faith,’ of another?

@Scoobs when someone attempts to patronize me...my instinct sends up red flags!

@Scoobs ...’You’re clearly a bright lady’...you don’t know me well enough to know what my intelligence factor is! And, your apology came after ‘a dig’ so it is meant to distract...not make amends! I owned my opinion, you should do the same with your opinion, not try and read something into my opinion that is not there! Especially when you know nothing about me, except for a few words!

@Scoobs what was your point in all your nonsense? You seem to think that by entangling your passive aggressiveness into the semantics of a related comment to the post that what? You flexed your Socratic form of questioning? You seem to be just an asshole trying to trip someone up on an objectively debatable word as 'faith'. You neither helped nor redirected the conversation.

Regarding the validity of the post itself: the very fact that "The Bible" has been edited to fit dogma of the day only and to control or accommodate the dogma is absolutely questionable. The truth that the Gregorian Calendar is what is now used as a record of time is just an example of such editing.

Don't be an internet tough guy.

@CoastRiderBill thank you...those were the ideas I had in my mind.

@Scoobs You may well ask. Start with The Don. I'm expecting an entertaining review of how he goes about it.
