Correct me if I'm wrong here...I thought this was an Agnostic/Atheist, etc... site, so why is it being overrun by political bullshit? Every other post is political! I think we get enough of that shit on other sites, don't you?

If you think A/Ag is not political then I would like to know what it is for you.

Political...that is what's on the minds of agnostics (and others) at the moment. We don't go around like Evangelicals talking about our religion all the time! We wonder and contemplate and struggle with current issues! Certain political issues are heightened at the moment and we are 'expressing'. It is not easy to jump from one idea to 25 more...so scan the list and envolve yourself in those post that speaks to 'where' you are at the moment!

I'm confused a tad. Do you get here and read the posts simply by clicking on "Discuss" at the top of the page? If so, have you ever noticed all the categories on the right side of the pages? Best way to avoid political conversations is to keep clicking on everything over there EXCEPT for politics. You may still find some politics in other categories from time to time, like probably there is a picture of djt under the category "Worst Jokes in the World." Explore a little. Then the rest of the people who are very much into keeping up with and discussing world events have their fun in peace.

With the idiot Trump in the White House and the bizarre and morally bankrupt crap the Republicans are pulling, every American should be concerned about the future of our democracy!

You’re in the US ..is our Supreme Court to your liking? Do you see it changing for the better? Do you not feel the current political party in control (of all 3 branches of our government) has become a religion unto itself? Are your city council meetings opened with ‘a prayer?’ Does your public school board preclude or inhibit the teaching sex ed, serious science or honest history because it’s loaded with religious fundamentalists? Do you appreciate our youth reciting a ‘prayer of aledgence?’ How about having “In God We Trust” on our money? Or churches not paying for city services like sidewalks, roads, infrastructure bonds or police & fire protection..?

Those beyond having discovered Agnosticism or Atheism are looking to free others to do the same, and as ‘shitty’ as politics can get - that’s how serious change happens.

Dilly! Dilly!

@ConnieR Once asked, “What fuels your political drive?” I answered, ‘my Atheism.’ Still does.. For every reason above, and more. And in numerous ways, I’ve helped defend our rights in the USA. So I can’t help but ask, what are you doing to make life safer for Atheists & Agnostics? And if it’s something like, ‘minding my own business’ … that's what the Germans said in the late 1930’s..

You are corrected. Thnx kkgator and sassygirl!

I think I understand the aggravation. Politics is ugly. It is dishonest. It is nauseatingly partisan, and seems to pit family, neighbor, and coworker against one another.

But it is also one of the most powerful forces effecting our lives, whether regarding the economy, health, environment, education, and basic civil rights. To ignore it or pretend it is irrelevant is to put on blinders. Ever since the evangelical religious right of America decided it wanted to shape government to its agenda and has waged a fierce many-layered campaign to do just that, they have guaranteed that any discussion of religion opens the door to possible political references as well. It is foolish in the extreme to ignore that danger for some notion that political discussion is impolite.

The fact is the evangelical political movement has specifically targeted the GOP to attempt to control it for their religious purposes. Not any other party. The GOP specifically. In case you missed it, the GOP happens to be running the country right now and making a royal mess of it. Evangelical voters were the key demographic responsible in 2016.

I suggest you Google: Christian dominionist.

Atheism is just not believing in supernatural. You can not argue that 24 hours a day, every day.
People are interested in politics too. Why not? Its part of our life, is scandalous, frustrating, exciting, surprising, there are so many impulses. people react, is in our nature. Don't react to politics if you do not feel so.

Politics gets top billing anywhere: Facebook, the Golden Globes, the newspapers (rember those?), the workplace, the grocery store line, the barstool... It's whats on people's minds and tongues everywhere. Always.

If you find a way to successfully, reliably filter it out, let me know.

The two are inextricably tied.

Politics affects religion.Religion is determining today's Politics. Both affect us. You have many categories to choose from.
