What song(s) are life-affirming or helped you along your journey?
There are moments when a certain song will come on, and I will have to stop whatever I'm doing to really listen to the lyrics ... replay the song a few times ...
Sometimes it's a song that speaks to who I am as a human ... or as a woman ... or I'm going through some type of emotional or mental issue and a certain song will "speak" to me (for a lack of a better phrase).
I Am Here by Pink -- I was on the elliptical at the gym ... the whole song made me stop and go to the restroom, I had tears running down my face... it's personal for me, but this song is extremely life-affirming for me as a human.
Woman by Kesha -- this has become a feminist anthem for me of sorts. So bad-ass ...
Dao of St Paul by Third Eye Blind -- Years ago I was running a 6-miler, this song came on, and I realized at that moment I was "divorcing" Jesus (that was my emotional process at that time in becoming an atheist)... This song has a lot of impact for me to this day.
How about you? Any song/s that are life-affirming, or have helped you along your life journey?
Eagles, Already Gone
Rush, Freewil and many others
Billy Joel, My Life and Only th Good Die Young
Fleetwood Mac, Landslide (lyrics below)
Well, I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I'm getting older too
I don't have a long history with this song, but I do put it on when I need a boost. Titanium - by David Guetta, featuring Sia. Play it loud in the car! I don't care for the video, but the words and music get me going.
This Girl Is On Fire...Alicia Keys....Anything by Pink...
Pink! is such a Badass.
@evestrat But of course Lady Gaga...
I don't have one anymore..... sad isnt it. Anything with Steve Perry.
Oddly, I like songs that touch upon mental illness (anxiety, depression, insecurity, etc.). I'm not sure why, but I find them compelling in some way. Here are a few that come to mind:
"Unwell" by Matchbox Twenty
"Flagpole Sitta" by Harvey Danger
"The Way I Am" by Ingrid Michaelson
"Chandelier" by Sia, as performed by Postmodern Jukebox
What, no Blue October?
Yes on SIA - early years
Oh! I love Puddles Pity Party especially with PMJ!
Saw them at the HOB in NOLA couple years ago, excellent!!
Friendship classics: "Lean On Me," " Bridge Over Troubled Water," "I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends," "You've Got A Friend."
Pride and diversity anthems. Particularly
"True Colors," " Titanium," "I Am What I Am," "Imagine," "Closer to Fine."
You Wouldn't Believe by 311 -- It's the theme song of my good days.
Roundtable Rival by Lindsey Stirling -- The first time I heard this was live, 10 feet from the stage. I closed my eyes and it just moved me. It's instrumental and just captures something about struggle for me.
You Never Lied by Morgan James -- at 37 years old, for the first time in my life, a sad love song finally hit me. I was in the front row, listening to this little woman with a voice that doesn't sound like it can fit inside her body, I finally felt the stab of a sad love song. It was nice to feel connected to humanity in that way.
Drive - incubus, is my currently most inspirational song.
Cat Stevens - Moonshadow
The Traveling Wilburys - the Wilbury twist
Buddy Holly - True Love Ways
Whitesnake - Slow an' Easy
T-REX - Ride A White Swan
My life is told in songs, so many I could list but I'll leave it at 5 for now.
The Shins, Pink Bullets. "since then it's been a book you read in reverse, so you understand less as the pages turn. Or a movie so crass and awkwardly cast that even I could be the star." there are so many, but that came to mind first.
Okay. I tried posting these before but, I'm not seeing them.
After losing my sons in a custody battle, this one got to me and, still does every time I hear it. (But, I got them back!)
