It's a beautiful summer day... The birds are singing the flowers are blooming... And the yellow school buses are doing their trial run for Monday....

Wait.... WHAT THE FUCK?

All part of the warehousing of kids plan to keep that money flowing and to let parents go to work without paying for sitters.

A famous study that aired every day for months on the Kentucky learning channel in the 1980s showed that when there are only five kids per teacher for two hours a day, students can go up a grade every TWO WEEKS.

All the rest of the time in public school is warehousing..holding all the kids back in lockstep for the slowest kid in the classroom in order to keep them in school as long as possible.

When I was home schooling my kids, they started reading at two and were reading library books by the basketful by four, doing algebra at five. I hadn't planned to even start teaching them until they were five, but they had other ideas.

Wow! Just Wow! I don't know what to say! That is really, really worth some thought!

A bus, my other car. Driver meeting Tuesday but school does not begin until the 4th. Will take the bus out for a spin one day the week before school begins. Same route as last year for me so really just a road test and final check.

...And the unforgiving hand of realism has made it's presence felt... Sorry!

K-12 started back Aug 4. The local university resumed class Aug 13. Seems too early to me, but my kids don't complain. They like heading back.

It's so soon for a tree to be that turned! Same here - they are early this year.

@MissKathleen Nope trust me I was out yesterday and we noticed the trees were already changing., It's weird. Probably the extensive heat we had all summer.

companies make $ when school is open maybe? does a longer school year translate to better test scores? and/or profits? does it free up parents in the labor force? are they building in more snow days or holidays?

Who knows? 😕

Got their day mixed up maybe. Or yeah... Smoked weed and wanted to practice the route.

They always practice the day before but look at the date? Poor kiddos!

@SukiSue my daughter starts in the morning

@Electro68 I think this ruins the rest of her summer, and yours!

@SukiSue maybe saves mine runs hers, jk.

Maybe they are new to the job and they are practicing.

Yup. They are practicing for the first day of school....TOMORROW!!! I mean, what happened to the Tuesday after Labor Day?

@SukiSue What happened is that now schools are mostly air-conditioned and there are more breaks. Back in the day (I know, I know) none of the schools were a/c and school did not start up until after Labor Day. There was also no Spring Break, or long Christmas Holiday. We went home on Dec. 23 and returned on Jan 2. Thur. and Fri. for Thanksgiving, and that was about it for the holidays.

@SukiSue Why are they spending more time in school, but learning less?
