In a 20 year emotionally, and occasionally physically abusive marriage to an alcoholic. But I got out.

When I was kid, a friend invited me to play at his house. His mom picked us up after school, but instead of going straight to his house, we stopped at a nail salon because his mom had an appointment to get her nails done. My friend and I had to stay inside the salon the entire time. His mom was a single parent and was very protective of her son. (Once she called her boyfriend, the neighbors, and almost the police because he and I walked a little bit further down the neighborhood than where we were supposed to. She thought we had been kidnapped or something.)

So we couldn't leave the salon and the fumes from the place were intense. I remember having a bottle of Root Beer and trying to breathe in the Root Beer smell instead of the nail salon fumes because it was getting unbearable. Well I got a massive headache while we were there and had to be taken home. I haven't been in a nail salon since then.

On my way back from kansas city, at a truck stop 30 miles from anywhere, with no gas, and my paycheck that always came through at midnight that randomly decided not to go through until 9 am, leaving my stranded at a truck stop for 5 hours.

A trucker tried to kidnap me, but a cop came and scared him off

2

Buffalo, Wyoming. A week and a half trying to find a rental car in a hick town with more churches than people.

1

Catholic church for my niece's graduation ceremony from catholic school.

2

When I was laid off after 31 years of uninterrupted service. The time between jobs felt like the twilight zone or something. Stay home and do nothing did NOT fare too well with me. I was pretty miserable freaking out.... Luckily, I was searching so agressively that I found an even better job. The fact that it is 70 miles away from home seems unimportant now.

Life... long time, very long time!

I concur with @nottheonlyone about in my head, for years at a time. Physically other than living alone for much longer than is ideal, By the side of the road downtown with a flat waiting on a jack in Knoxville (apparently my used car was missing it). then the donut got me maybe a half mile before having to be towed anyways to a wal mart parking lot to spend the night til I could buy a tire. Had two friends with me, taking one to see a band for his birthday but wound up missing the show, his dad came to get him from an hour n a half away and the other friend stayed with me in the parking lot til morning. Biggest bummer of a wasted night ever.

Stranded overnight in Seoul's airport. Howling rainstorm outside made even a day tour seem awful. This is the only time in my life I rented a hotel room by the hour! 🙂

(Edited to say...by the hour to SLEEP, of course!)
