The past couple of years have been pretty tough for music fans. Tom Petty was a big loss for me. His music was a huge influence on me during the late 70's and early 80's. When he passed, I wanted to do something as a tribute. I recorded this in my basement "boom room" with just an acoustic guitar. I didn't want to try to duplicate his sound. You just can't do Tom Petty like Tom Petty. So, (for the music geeks that want to know what I did here) I changed the song structure from 4/4 time to 3/4 and sang this the way it felt at the time. I hope I didn't destroy the song for anyone.

One for me is Leon Russell. Highly underrated in my eyes.

@Piece2YourPuzzle He was definitely underrated. I loved his work.

@Duke I can't tell you the number of people I've come across that are unaware that he wrote, "A Song For You".

Sadly government / national paranoia has now made mockery of Eric's song. Offshore concentration camps are employed to injure refugees and keep them illegally detained.

refugee waltz

@btroje I do like to change up some songs. I think it's a better tribute sometimes than just trying to copy the original artist. (Although, sometimes I do that also.)

Enjoyed your video - my favorites - "here comes my girl" - "even the losers" - "century city"

@gater Here Comes My Girl... another of my favorites!

So are we gonna be able to tune in here for a daily concert, because if so, I'm LOVIN' this!?!?!

Donna Level 6 Jan 29, 2018

@Donna HA! I'll post things once in a while. I don't have as much time as I used to for this stuff but, I'll keep you updated!

@Donna I've got a David Cassidy-Partridge Family tune around here somewhere that I did recently...

Nice, Duke. Thanks for that. I loved Tom Petty's music. I think my all-time favorite is Runnin' Down A Dream. I saw him in concert a couple years ago in L.A.; the "warm up" band was ZZ Top. He will be missed. Incidentally, I heard he was Bob Dylan's son-in-law, is that true?

@Condor5 I don't know the answer to that. It's the first time I heard it.

@Condor5 I looked that up. He had a stepson named Dylan from his second marriage to Dana York.

Thanks for posting that. It's wonderful.
I'm still absolutely heartbroken at his passing.

@KKGator So many gone in the past couple of years. I've been wanting to record an Eagle tune in memory of Glenn Frey also but, I have a feeling it wouldn't stay on YouTube very long. Don Henley is pretty good at keeping their stuff off YouTube.

@Duke Some of Glenn Frey's solo stuff is on youtube. Losing both GF and David Bowie in the same month was a gutpunch to me. And now to have TP gone, it's almost too much to take.

I like it! Thanks for sharing.

@BeeHappy Thanks! 🙂

Nicely done! I bought Damn the Torpedoes on cassette when it came out in 1979 and wore it out dragging Main Street in Garden City Kansas. Thanks for sharing.

@Fearlessfreep Thanks! Oh yeah... that was the album to have that year!

Awesome version, dude!

@BikerDude50 Thank you!

Thanks! @BucketlistBob

That's awesome! You sound amazing. I grew up on Petty, The Boss, The king, George, Hank and Slayer. I have an ovation too, along with about 5 or 6 others.

Thanks! @jayneonacobb I really appreciate that!
