@Sirena Lucky you. What I meant is many gas stations tanks receive sipped water.

I live across the river from a major oil refinery that has pipelines into vast reserves with hundreds of wells about a hundred miles from the refinery.

The price of gas here is $2.89.

Really wish the price here was closer to your $7.84 in the hopes such prices would curb the absolute waste of finite fossil fuels.

The majority of traffic on the streets are huge gas-guzzling 4x4 SUVs and trucks. Most of those vehicles are used by people that life and work in town and have no need to move large items. The mode passenger count including driver is 1 with a mean (excluding school buses) of roughly 1.2

Here is a classic example: I was sitting in the YMCA sauna when an old fat man waddled in. He made a a comment about the war in Iraq (this is when the Bush (oil) administration was attempting to seize control and profit from the pipelines after the war). I noted he and his kind were also to blame for this activity as he most likely wasted gasoline at an obscene level. He objected so replied: "OK, I'll bet you drive a pick-up truck that gets less then ten miles to the gallon, I'll bet you live in town, I'll bet you don't need to drive a truck as you have nothing to move, I'll bet you drive this truck four times a day even though you don't have any-place you actually need to be. I'll bet you could survive without any vehicle as your needs could be met by walking and mass transit". His reply was, "Yea, but it's OK because when I was young I didn't use much gas". He quickly and smugly waddled out.

The next day I was sitting in the same sauna that was now strangely mostly filled with Air force pilots. The same old fat man waddled in and before he could spew nonsense I firmly noted to all: "You'll never believe what I ran into here yesterday. There was this guy who thinks it's OK to waste gas because he didn't waste gas when he was a kid. That's like an old going up to swimming pool and taking a dump in the pool and saying it's ok, when I was young I didn't take a dump into the swimming pool". It was fun watching the fat man's proud and smug smile evaporate as he figured out he was the old guy dumping in the swimming pool. The pilots were not impressed as they all likely drove guzzling trucks but the fat guy didn't pick up on their lack of enthusiasm for an untenable position.

@NoMagicCookie Unfortunately, it doesn't help much - we have far too many gas-guzzling 4x4s too, and people still use their cars for ridiculously short journeys of a mile or less. People are just too attached to car ownership and will find the money to keep them running.

I remember seeing petrol prices in London about 13 years ago. 99 p per litre. I laughed my stupid American arse off

US gallons are not the same as Imperial gallons. 1 US gallon = 3.7854 liters. Here in Canada we usually just say a gallon is roughly almost 4 liters. Still, that is quite expensive gas where you are.

@graceylou Good point! Bearing that in mind, we pay $6.49 per gallon.

@Jnei That is pretty insane. Our price is ridiculous due to the fact that we are in oil country here in Alberta. We produce this stuff. It’s just our taxes and fees are crazy.
