Who's a person who inspires you? I don't just mean politicians - I mean activists, writers, organizers, communicators, media figures - everybody in every field. Who gives you hope?

i do not equate inspiration with hope. i can't think of any individual who gives me hope. i can only hope we don't blow ourselves up before today's children can grow up and make their OWN mistakes, maybe, if we're very lucky, fixing some of ours along the way. voting helps. meanwhile, inspiration? a hell of a long list. let's start with hypatia.

Stephen fry , his wonderful sense of humour and extraordinary level of intilect . Although he has suffered with depression he still carries on and is a logical , impressive individual . If I could spend a evening with anyone in the world it would be him , enjoy his conversation over dinner with a few drinks.

Since 2006, as a volunteer college mentor at Wenatchee High School, I have helped first generation, minority students write essays for college and scholarship applications. Also I teach them writing and organizational skills.

The first girl I mentored, Yuliya, is now a civil engineer at Puget Sound Shipyards, WA. Yuliya speaks five languages and is a trail runner.

One of my best success stories is Brenda, who won $269,455 in scholarships in 2016. A sophomore at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, Brenda plans to become a medical doctor and pathologist. Brenda hopes to cure diseases.

In June 2018, I took three young women I previously mentored on a hike around Icicle Gorge. From the left:

  1. Tammy, a Vietnamese immigrant, plans to be a neurosurgeon. She is a sophomore at the University of Washington.

  2. Brenda recently graduated from Gonzaga University debt-free. She plans to become a pediatrician. Before applying to medical school, Brenda is spending a year volunteering in rural Oregon, helping low income hospice patients and their families.

  3. Outgoing and enthusiastic, Teresa is an inspirational community leader. Teresa is studying to be an accountant. She has been asked to run for public office as a Democrat in a few years.

These are remarkable young people. I feel honored to work with them.

In May 2018, I won the first Scholarship Rockstar award from the College Mentor Program of Wenatchee High School. I was thrilled.

That's just awesome!

This is truly inspiring & humbling!

@Anniemae

Thank you. It thrills me to send these kids to college.

Wow. Awesomely awesome. My generation was hoping to be Miss America.

Ask them to look at Girls Lives Matters

I always admired Jane Goodall. She's so calm, optimistic and has so much faith in the human race. She is the total opposite of me.

She is one of my favorites as well.
She has really helped all of us understand that we are not the only sentient beings on the planet.

Carl Sagan... and the 4 Horsemen.. Also Ayaan Hirsi Ali (instead of the 4 Horsemen she is/would've been part of "The 5 pillars" )

Steven Pinker, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Bill Nye, Tracie Harris, Matt Dillahunty, Aron Ra, Sean Carroll, PZ Myers.. + so many more

I would add Einstein as the first of the many more!

6

Stephen Hawking. He was a beacon of optimism, courage and perseverance.

6

Bugs Bunny for his sass and wit;
Wile E Coyote for his refusal to accept defeat;
Pepe Le Pew for refusing to let his personal problems stand in his way.

My son, Isaac

@linxminx The night he was born, I was told he wouldn't make it through the night. He and I had a terrible time during his birth and we went through a very traumatic emergency C-section. 6 hours later, I was told I had to leave the hospital. Well he survived, we came back to UK (From AZ). And he grew stronger. At first he struggled with school and we were advised he should go to a 'special school' we ignored them. (This was the child who translated Japanese at 9 years old!) He carried on. At 10 he was diagnosed with Asbergers. We asked him if he wanted us to get extra help, he said no so we carried on. At 11 he corrected his teacher and she admitted he was right! In secondary school they said contrary to needing special education, he is exceptionally bright. He went onto university and this year he graduated with a 2:1 in politics. He is funny, tall, handsome, kind and thoughtful. He has a way of seeing through all the political BS and get right to the point. He writes like a dream and he's going to ok. I have two other children who are just as inspirational, I'll tell you about them another time.

@linxminx Wonderful

I am a mental health clinician. My clients give me hope every single day. The courage and resourcefulness and resilience they display over and over inspires me.

I agree 100%.

I was approached by a friend of mine in the medical field who wanted to bring Auto Transfusion devices to developing nations. He needed a technical partner to help him fix the units up and convert them to operate on 220v. His dream of saving mainly pregnant mothers in poverty stricken nations has really inspired me. We've placed a unit in Lima Peru this summer and are planning 6 more in early spring to Lima, Sengal Africa and Port-au-Prince Haiti. Feel honored and inspired to be apart of this.

Gee, they have died or keep dying like flies..... Richard Feynman, Carl Sagan, Stephen Hawking, Hitchens....Still around Brian May, Qeen lead guitar which not many people know that on top of being a graduate professional musician, he is also a PhD astrophysicist contributor to the big bang theory and still find time to support all kind of humane causes. Steve Jobs comes to mind and of course Bill Gates for being that kid in the right place at the right time and keeps triving regardless.....too many talented individuals that have managed to maximize the time given.

I'm inspired by futurists like Elon Musk, astrophysicist Neil DeGrass Tyson, & politician's who lie on the progressive side of history like Bernie Sanders.

3

No one. I am sure that all the great people that are or were had something wise to say, but when it comes down to it, I listen to myself.

3

Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Trevor Noah. Rachel Maddow. Lin-Manuel Miranda.

2

My Dad for his practical logic and sense of humor. He taught me to think- and that I didnt have to believe anything. My Mom for being a feminist and strong independant woman. And my Dad, again, for loving that and standing with her. And a multitude of everyday friends who make me want to be a better person.

My ‘Boss,’ and what a treat.. After a lifetime in the working world, finally, I can choose who I care to give more than I receive… Though like a big brother I never had, he’s decided to retire. Wants me to work with him on some home projects, I’m honored.

Good for choosing someone real.

There are people for whom l have much admiration, but l can't think of anyone who does or has inspired me. I don't believe my brain works that way.

2

After 8 years of that idiot Obama Trump gives me hope.

Rly?

hope for what? an all-white america? dream on.

g

Hope that he would double our national deficit and score higher on the psychopath ranks than Hitler without hyperbole while making us the literal laughing stock of the world? congrats, mission accomplished!

Brave admission on these pages but fair enough

You reside in a vast minority… including atheists..

2

I have to be inspired by myself.
I can admire others, and I do, but I am the only one who can inspire me to do anything or have hope.
