Would you pray if your 90 year old grandmother asked you to?
I was visiting family this past summer and me, my wife, kids dad and my grandma were around the table and she asked me to pray for our meal. It was something I did many times growing up but it's been about ten years at this point since I've said a prayer. She's 90, I wasn't going to open that can of worms, so I did.
Anybody been in this situation?

Nope, I won't pray for anyone's benefit. I'm not a hypocrite.

Sure I would, She will never know who I pray too. It makes her feel good and secure and I get to give her the true prayer, Return to mother nature and be happy with your atoms.

I would do anything for my grandparents.

I'd try to get out of it. But if I did, they'd be sorry because it would be the most awkward prayer ever. I wouldn't even have a clue how to lead a group prayer.

If you bow your head during grace who the heck knows what you're thinking about? I do it to be respectful but while they're praying to their deity, I'm thinking - I can't wait to dig into that turkey. This isn't a major issue.

No, lead the prayer aloud. Yourself.

@Bosshaus My bad - sorry - no, I would not. I also wouldn't make it about my lack of faith - I would try to pass it off to someone else - I would find some reason as to why I wasn't up to the task.

I was asked to lead a corporate prayer before our meeting started, I was startled why they asked me but I did it anyway, I mentioned how we are all safe due to our ability to think. Thanks for the ability to think When I was done, many came up to me and said what a wonderful prayer, Wow I was so happy to tell them I hold what jesus asserted as wonderful thoughts but I do not believe in that stuff. But you are so christian in your actions? Yes I am because I think about others and not just getting what I want.

I think everyone knows it's crazy to ask me to lead a prayer for a meal. It's crazy to ask me to join a meal to begin with. But I have been in a situation where there was a prayer before a meal and I did not participate. No way I would say grace, even though my name is Grace.

Nope. If I was asked and didn't want to get into it, I would just say, "Granny, I wouldn't feel comfortable leading the prayer...thank you anyway." That way I don't offend others, but still follow my beliefs.

that is like asking if i could grow wings and fly if someone asked me. no. there is no one to whom to pray; how could i pray?

but you don't mean actually pray. you mean to say something like a prayer. you could say "i am grateful [kind of a trigger word for me but i wouldn't be there lol] that we have food." you would not have to address the "prayer" to anyone.
