Three, I think. They blend together. All women with sob stories needing a few hundred dollars. They say, I like your bio, to start a conversation. We chat a bit, and the sob story comes out. Their bio is thin and usually inconsistent, like saying T-shirt XL with a pic of a 13 y/o skinny girl. They didn't post or comment. They won't give an address and won't meet you. I finally put the following at the bottom of my bio, "I don't give to anyone I've met only on the Internet, whatever your emergency."

@Dollwiser I just write them off, and I'll pay the taxes, happy to be rid.

To protect yourself from scammers, send me a private message to learn more about my anti-spammer software. For only $24.95/month, you'll gain peace of mind that you're not vulnerable to con artists and their myriad forms of deceit. This is a limited-time offer. Don't delay… act today!

I'll trade you this bridge I got cheap.

With a little practice they are not difficult to spot. My attitude tends to be to assume the guy is a scammer until evidence to the contrary satisfies me that he isn't. In the meantime, don't give out personal info.

None. New members hve to have their posts approved by someone at a higher "level". That pretty much roots out almost all of the spammers, scammers, and haters. They dont' ahve the tiem or patience to go through that.

One for sure. Possibly a couple of others. But I'm not here for dating so may be I'm not as big a target.

None.

On other dating sites, I have been approached by 34 scammers. None got a penny out of me. They are laughably easy to spot:

  1. Poor command of the English language. Rarely capitalize the letter "I."'
  2. Extremely handsome/beautiful photos. Scammers steal photos from model's websites, and profiles from dating websites.
  3. Profess instant love for you. Call you "an Angel who fell from Heaven."
  4. Same sob story: wife died in a fiery car crash or ran off with his best friend.
  5. Says he's an American who was born in Europe.
  6. Claims to be an engineer or missionary working temporarily in North Africa oil fields.
  7. Pressures you to quickly switch to instant messaging.
  8. Says he lives in a city near you. In my case, Seattle.
  9. Keeps up the romantic pressure until SURPRISE! ....He was robbed at the airport/bus/train station and needs you to wire him $5,000 so he can fly home to be in your arms.

Nigerian dating scammers work in large warehouses with phones and computers. Millions of dollars are lost and hearts are broken across the world each year. They target American, British and Canadian singles.

I reported and blocked scammers. They pop up again like daisies with new profiles and pictures.

If someone looks too beautiful or handsome, look them up on Google Image Search. Often they show up on scammer-busting websites.

So obvious...

1 for sure and then a few odd ducks. No harm done.

lots of trolls but only on erstwhile scammer so far, couldn't quite get that i wasn't interested in being his very close friend after i tell him everything about myself, everything do you hear? everything! this after i had already iterated what my profile already said, that i'm not looking for a romantic relationship, i have a guy, my guy has me, bla bla bla is all this idiot heard i guess. he backed off when i threatened to report and block him but i have no doubt he is bothering others.

g

I've had guys ask about my past as well. I tell them that I live in the here and now.. They don't respond to that lol

@Cutiebeauty i don't think the guy who bothered me was asking about my past, though that would've been weird too. i remember he wanted to know all my likes and dislikes. how better to say "hey me too" right? he didn't offer any info about himself!

I’ve reported 5 and 4 were banned. The other was just a case of weirdness. I’ve blocked 1 person myself because he was crude and angry, plus a few who were just looking for a stranger to talk dirty to. #notmylineofwork
