Before you were born, you had no consequence on the billions of people alive throughout time. You did not exist. You felt no pain nor happiness, no loneliness, no bliss. Why should anyone think death is any different?
Even now, your reach of influence on the billions of people on Earth is pretty minuscule, save your immediate family and acquaintances.
Your sons and daughters will remember you and maybe their children will too, but each progressive generation will find your existence less and less meaningful......yes, without you in the chain, they may not have been born, but eventually, you'll just be a name on a branch of a family tree.
All the people in, say, the Congo or in India or Ireland right now are getting along with their lives and are completely oblivious to your life and will be as equally oblivious of your existence when you're dead.
Thousands of years of humans living and dying before you were even conceived just a few decades ago. And in a few more decades from now you will die.
Death is the same as un-birth.....you just don't exist.
Find happiness now and don't get stuck in the meaningless bullshit out there. Life is definitely too short.

The only obligation you have to "evolution"after you are born is to "die"

You're preaching to the choir, as they say. I'm down with that. All we really have is right now. Make the best of it.

I like the whole 'I was dead before I was born' way of looking at it. I'm personally not afraid of death. No knowledge of suffering doesn't sound so bad to me.

Hi Iritei, I did enjoy reading your excellent perception on " Life "................ For all the reasons mentioned in your letter, I have no fear of passing on, my existence has increased the population a small amount and that is all mother nature has asked of me. I am happy to be a fading memory to all those who loved me. I have been fortunate to have lived in an era of extraordinary progress in science, but I will miss what is yet to come. It has all been so exciting to observe. I include my daughter Susan as my contribution to society.

@iRITEi Thank you for your comment. This picture was taken to test a new black and white film developer. Normally, it is impossible to set the cameras exposure to handle such a wide range of light levels. [ dark inside the castle, and bright sunshine outside. but this developer and it's unusual process has achieved this to perfection. a truly amazing result..... [ I explain this for any budding B&W photographers interest. ]

I always feel sad when someone I know passes and I am sad when a young person dies, so much potential for life and creativity is gone.

As an educator and as a person, I know that my thoughts and actions have influenced more than a few people over the years. Many of them will, in turn influence others that follow them. And so it goes. Those following will not know who you were, but will have been influenced by you. It is not as meaningless as you depict. So, you will need to be damned careful as to how you influence others.

@iRITEi You fail to note the "butterfly effect." In very large scale systems, even the slightest variation can result in unpredictable -- and unpredictably large-- changes in the entire system.

I choose the ego. The people back then didn't have me to influence their lives. I plan on living forever.

You live on in the memory of others.

So much for all that nonsense they told me in High School about stuff going on my Permanent Record!

And then, sometimes, you find you have passed on your specific gene for happiness to another generation. My grandson has caught my hippie gene, gets the idea of "love the one you're with" and goes walk-about every summer. I will disappear but there is a thread hat will be woven into the fabric of my future generations.

LOL! You remind me of an old movie where a Greek seer brought back to modern times is drafted into being a psychic in a modern carnival.
When a giggling older woman asks hopefully about meeting a tall, dark, and handsome stranger, he reads her palm, then says that her life has been meaningless, she will die a meaningless death, and be forgotten as though she'd never existed.

Then he walks off, leaving her standing there in shock.

@icolan I tried to remember, but my google search was in vain. It was some 80s movie, sort of like Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Someone accidentally brought famous people back into modern times.
