So does anyone care that Britain's Prince Harry is engaged? Does the monarchy matter?

Two separate questions.

Part 1 - No. Happy that he has chosen to go with his heart and not the arrangements of previous generations.

Part 2 - Yes. The monarchy does matter and we should keep it.
As a socialist, I should be anti-monarchy.

But - and this is a big but - for the UK I think that the succession we have now is the best option of the options open to us.
Queen Elizabeth II has been a consistent and stable head of state for the 60 years or so she has been on the throne. She has been an ambassador for Britain and is respected around the world. The history and pomp and circumstance brings in tourists by the bucket load.

The alternatives are probably just as expensive and would unlikely to gain the same respect for a head of state as our royal family.
An elected president - 4 or 5 years and change costing how much? Very few elected heads of state gain the same positive recognition around the world as our royalty.
Get rid of the role of head of state altogether? Who would manage state visits - the prime minister? Too busy.

Cognitive dissonance on this one for me!

I'm not following this story, so it doesn't matter to me who he is engaged to.

I am sick of the publicity in regards to this matter

Not really to both questions.

Effin' no! Nothing makes me change a channel faster than a story about the Royals. Unless it is the KC baseball franchise.

Jail them all give the royal wealth to the poor

I'm with you @RandyWells. The Royals support close to 3,000 charities worldwide.

There is probably no one in the U.S. that even comes close to that.

@Vic47 royals laundering tax money into "charities" is not nobility IT IS THE FRAUD CHURCH OF ENGLAND TAXES collect

Wish him well, but interest level is zero

I am happy for him. It can't have been easy to grow up in that constant spotlight nor to have lost a parent so tragically, so young. He deserves great happiness, as we all do...

I don't care much for the monarchy, but on a seemingly personal levèl, both princes seem to be good human beings.

Ditto!

It's hard not to draw comparisons with The Bachelor or The Kardashians.

How so? I don't think they are remotely the same.

YES! I care because I object.

I'm disappointed that Mehgan ditched her career, and one of my favorite Netflix shows, to join the control freak royal family that drove Prince Harry's mother from the palace.

Mehgan Markle has already been attacked so viciously for her race that the palace issued warnings, but that doesn't mean people aren't talking about her anyway.

I am waiting to see their first born.....I am sure Queen Elizabeth doesn't mind Harry marries a mixed race person because he is not the heir to the crown.

No. Not in the least.
