Long overdue.

I think of churches more as scams than businesses....

So like Insurance Companies?

@Surfpirate Worse.

Yes I agree, but first and foremost all these so called televangelists should taxed to the max!

@PalacinkyPDX What about 100 Huntley Street? those guys are so nice. 😀

Absolutely! And do away with those tax deductions for tithes and I guarantee their funds would start dwindling.

and make the taxes retrospect as well.

As rich as the churches are, that might actually break them.

Statically speaking, the Wealthiest, Non-Profit ( supposedly Non-Profit ) Organization in the world, both fiscally and in non-fiscal, material Assets is the Catholic Church followed a very close and rapidly closing Second is the Church of J.C. and L.D.S. ( Mormons) with the Seventh Day Adventist Church running in at very close Third place via their Sanitarium Products/Productions Businesses including a huge ownership of Gloria Jeans Coffee Outlets.

@Surfpirate Then, to use their own favourite word " Amen," Amen= So be it, I say.

@Triphid Tithe them, see how they like it, they have been robbing the population for centuries so time for a little pay back.

@Surfpirate Tithe/Tithing is nothing more than another slightly easier to swallow name for a Tax/Levy, etc, etc.
That is why religions use Tithe instead of Tax or Levy.

@Triphid Tithe just means 10%.

@Surfpirate they might have to melt some of that gold

@Surfpirate Yes, I know it means 10% of a persons GROSS Earnings/Income, however it also means a Tax, Levy, Excise, etc, etc.

@Triphid I'd call it extortion from a spiritual protection racket.

@AmmaRE007 Shit, IF they had to do that the Gold Price would plummet like a stone in a lake.

@Surfpirate To my mind, what religions do is,
a) yes, they extort money for protection from demons, ghosts, evil spirits that do NOT actually exist anyway, and,
b) they SCAM people by offering an After-life which they can never prove exists and that no-one can ever expect to go to.

I absolutely don't get why they don't pay taxes!! The Bible even talks about "rendering to Caesar what is Caesars'. Just do a flat 10% tax on everything received. They benefit from their communities and should pay their part!! So silly they don't!!

Nothing silly about it, very clever actually.
