This time of year, it sucks being single. I don't go out unless it's with family, because bars and clubs aren't good places to be alone these days. New Year's Eve is spent at home watching TV. It would be nice if there were occasional local events to attend and meet other like-minded single people....

Check to see if your town or one nearby has a First Night. It's a cultural celebration on New Year's Eve with all sorts of events, and a lot of municipalities have been doing this. You can also check Meetup, as @nicknotes suggested.

Maybe you should look at doing some voluntary work at that time of the year. Or how about you look into your single friends and spent it together.

The movie theaters are always open, so I may go see one. Depends on the weather. Around here it's almost always very cold, snowy and windy on NY Eve..

U know what ma'am ? Forget about it ! So what ? We are single not leprants , I mean , so what ? Nobody pays my bills than me , and I ll be damn if I stay home Bcz it's " holidays ". What that means anyways to an atheist , who cares ? Ok , nice lights and red and green everywhere . I don't even like red , and green is ok if we were lizards ?

I am going to throw on jeans and boots and some make up to cover wrinkles ( no need for anyone to lose appetite ) AND GOING TO TAKE SELF OUT ON XMAS F EVE !
Y not ? I ll sit proud in the bar section and I will pig out the best . I will look at couples and I will smile ! Happy for them . Maybe next week / month / year is our turn ??

42 percent of the population is single as of the 2017 Census. So you aren't alone in being alone.

But I totally hear you. It's a nuisance. lol

Our society is set up for couples, when a divorce or death happens, the surviving partner is suddenly cut off from the parties and other social gatherings, almost as being "Shunned",no matter how close the friendships were before the "Event", the wives will view the surviving partner with suspicion, invitations will become fewer as time goes on,sad, yes, but that's how it seems to work......

Invite someone over. I can't think of a much better place to be on New Years Eve or most any night.
