Decembers are hard. For everyone.

Whether Atheist or Agnostic. Even for that Theist back there in the corner.

It starts in November with Thanksgiving and the commercialism showing perfect families and telling everyone to spend more (that they might not have).
It's rough. Not everything is suddenly perfection.
Singles are still single.

Gatherings - where family/friends or work - might be a bit more stress than you really want to handle? Yup those too.

Just realize - we all see each other here.
We know it's going on. You aren't alone in this.

I'm noticing folks are having the usual hard time that the season brings and I value the crap out of you all.
And I hope you all know it. (Even that guy at the back in the corner.).

So hang in there. I'll keep saying it too.
Don't be foolish this will pass. It does every single year.
Remember to be kind to yourselves if no one else is being kind.

Atheist sermon concluded. If you need a cat pic - say so. Here's one to tide you over.

Thank you for writing this. Absolutely, I feel this way every year. Growing up Jewish, I always attributed it to being an outsider; as I've gotten older, I've learned that others feel this way, too. So much emphasis on "togetherness" and happy gatherings -- when this time of year brings up equally intense feelings of sadness and loneliness, even among those with close and loving family and friends.

Throw in a December birthday that never gets acknowledged and it really is a whirlwind of suck.

My best friend's Mom growing up? Her Birthday was Dec. 23rd. We baked her a cake one year at my house - when we were old enough too.
Pretty sure that was the best birthday she got for a lot of years. (((Emerald)))).

Thank you for the cat picture, always welcome but please don't make it wear that silly outfit too long, cats have pride too. And thanks for the post, being a UK member I was getting a bit fed up with hearing all about Thanks Giving from the US, even though most of it was critical. I thought it was just me because it means so little to us over hear, and I thought that next year I would take revenge by putting up hundreds of posts about Guy Fawkes night. However now I hear that some of you get as fed up with the season, I will forgive, (spirit of my year not just one season) and forget. So no bonfire night posts, unless I can think of something really funny.

Both my parents were born on the 5th of November... So post away it gives me great memories!

I don't find it depressing. But it does irritate the shit out of me. I fuckin hate xmas lights and tinsel and everyone's cheery 'merry xmas' greeting. I hate when people give me cards cos then I have to return them. Christmas day means doing a shit load of cooking being a busy hostess and then cleaning up the mess. Next year I'm running away

Send out some Atheist Cards. Woke my senders up! ..don’t know if American Atheists still sells them, but I’ve plenty left. I hate it, too, but have so removed myself from the idiotic scene that when I do notice it ..I laugh.

Though, sometimes I cuss … like watching the urban hunters returning with their kill strapped to the top of their car, only to chuck it ..in 3 or 4 weeks … instead of allowing it to have become a magnificent carbon sequestering tree.. Adults behaving like children while claiming they’re doing it ‘for the children.’ What kind of BS it that?

Sprinkle in just enough Religion to sour it completely ..and ‘tiz the season’ to simply endure. Please do ~
