Update: I knew all along that country would either be at or very close to the bottom on this poll. Most intellectuals, which is what almost all non-believers are, don't like country and for good reasons.

I voted for the categories I listen to the most but can find some redeeming qualities in just about all categories. You mentioned country. I don't usually listen to country but I've heard some country songs I like, same with rap, just not as many. LOL

So far country is the next to last place genre, just about what I expected. No surprise there's not a NASCAR group on here either. When I was preparing to set up the categories for the poll, I noticed that while there were several groups for music lovers, each with different genres, there was not one group solely for fans of country music. And there were also no groups for sports fans either, which didn't surprise me either. It's not that I think intellectuals like us hate sports, as I'm sure plenty of us like me played sports and still like them in moderation. But in general, I think intellectuals are just not interested in sports enough to want to discuss them regularly with others like Joe Six-Pack.

I don't care much for Country or Jazz.

I like most music but am not a fan of country. Not sure why...probably because in my circle, I associate it with , well, country living people...and I am definitely a city girl. Musically, I know a lot of it is danceable and upbeat, but it just doesn't strike me emotionally.

I also think it is what you grew up with...what your listened to in your teens and young adult life.

My dad liked it and I do enjoy older country like Patsy Cline..

I think your tastes can change over time as well...my preference is classic rock and smooth jazz now...but I will put on classical music to work by.

You missed quite a bit of other categories. I will say I love all types of music. It depends how I feel. I'm not into today's country but older country music was good. I literally like all genres but so few people were born in a music world to be open to all music. Music is often instilled in culture and has little to do with intelligence. People are easily products of their own environment. Not all. But most.

Alternative, first wave, rock, some metal, classical, cinematic, world music, folk (esp Celtic), electro swing, indie folk, certain show tunes, funk, and instrumentals 1950s onward.

It might be easier to state what I dislike: most pop, rap, hip-hop, nearly anything with female vocals, and a lot of country. For some reason, I really enjoyed the country scene around 1995 (before/after, not so much).

I have very catholic tastes in music but I seem to go for singer songwriter the most. Be that country, folk or whatever. It would be easier to list what I don't like. Which is stadium pussy rock a la Aerosmith, Guns and Roses etc. bad right wing c/w, autotune vocals and covers that bring nothing to the party.
Music can be a question of time and place. I doubt if anyone here would say that they like fairground organ music. Yet I spent a day a few years back in Blackpool fairground. We all sat drinking and chatting whilst the kids explored the park. (yes they had an adult with them). The wurlitzer tunes playing was just perfect. I would never have put this on my stereo at home but it was just right at that moment in time.
