Hi!

My name is Lalune, I'm a 24 year old Canadian living in England. I grew up in an overall non-religious house, in a non-religious school, with mostly non-religious friends. A couple years ago, I took a brilliant university Religion class which got me thinking....I've never really thought about religious. So, recently I've been on a bit of a learning spree. I joined this website to meet friends (hopefully) and learn more about what other people think about religion/God.

I consider myself agnostic, because I can't say for sure whether there is or isn't a greater power or cognitive entity. I've been reading a lot of your posts but I'd love to know what brought you to this site? And what your thoughts on religion are?

For me I go with, Agnostic Atheist.
Atheist because I don't believe in such nonsense as god (s) or any other supernatural whatever.
An Agnostic, because I can't empirically prove one way or another.

There's been a number of scammers and bots but you're an actual really real person so welcome. Agnosticism is a common side road for those on the path toward atheism. I spent a few years there myself before I was ready to state definitively that there are no gods, or higher powers, or cosmic intelligences, or whatever fanciful notions people feel the need to cling to for comfort..

I am really real! Thank you. I find myself creeping up that path slowly, and Im okay with that because I usually like to take my time and learn. What do you think made you definitely atheist? Was there a particular turning point?

@lalune There's no one incident or epiphany that instantly makes it clear, it's an ongoing awareness that the claims, stories, and promises of religion just look dumber and more ridiculous the more you examine them critically. Eventually, you realize it's all a con job.

Place holder. I put this here so I can find it later. I'd like to comment, but duty calls. Back later.

Hello Lalune, welcome to the community. I’m also Canadian although I’m residing in Texas. I’ve been an Atheist for at least 20 years and agnostic since I was about 8.
I was drawn to this site as I live in the buybull belt where it’s all religion all the time. I was seeking community with same minded people.

Aw! It's nice to hear from other Canadians as I miss home quite a lot sometimes. I have cousins that live in Dallas! I've never been but I'd love to visit Texas. I live in a small English town that's deeply imbedded with religion but I do very much enjoy the church bells in the morning and walking thought the grounds. 🙂

Hi Lalune!
I'm here because I'm an atheist and I like to debate.
Religion is completely bunk, multiple different cultures didn't all come up with theories about invisible all powerful sky people without a common human trait causing them to do so. Therefore, human need not equivalent to potentially existence of Bast.

What an interesting thought. You know, I have to say that the idea of a "human trait" causing mass amounts of peoples across cultures to come up with the same/similar ideas. Well, I suppose the idea of death and the unknown (while that isn't a trait) is a common theme among people. What do you think is the common human trait you're referring too? I'd love to hear more.

@lalune Trait may be the wrong word, maybe a psychological drive of some kind would be better. The truth is that all religions have similarities such as "created everything including man" and "ours is the only true religion" and many were developed completely independent of any outside influence. This leaves a few potential outcomes, but only one that's logical. The desire to find or create an answer to these larger than life questions is within all humans. Ever wonder what the purpose of life is?

@mattersauce ah no, I get what you mean now. I think I was just being a little bit to literal. I'll definitely have to put some more thought into this as it's not something I've really explored. Now that you mention it though, it seems silly that I haven't thought of it myself.

I do often wonder about the purpose of life, as you mentioned I think there in an inherent desire/need to create or find answers to the unknown. As it's midnight here, Im not 100% sure if that question was rhetorical but I thought hey, the purpose of life is always a fun thing to think about!

Greetings and Welcome to you from me.
I'm an Atheist, have been so since about 8 years of age, have a ThD after studying Theology and Comparative Modern Religions purely to attempt to know and understand as much as possible ( if not, in many cases more than my debating opponents do) for debates about religion.
To my mind, religion makes about as much sense as standing on one foot whilst trying to find your way through a cyclone hoping not to get blown away by the winds.

Thank you! Nice to meet you. Your comment about the cyclone brightened my day. 🙂

I came to this site as a dating site and stayed for the Agnostic/A-theist community which I enjoy very much every day.

Same. I am having too much fun with this community. There are some really bright people here!

Lovely to hear from you! While I'm not here for dating, I can see why you've chosen to say. I spoken to quite a few really great people on here.
