25 years for me... I haven't done the math for a bit... lets see... $5 a pack. 2.5 packs a day is $12.50/day, or ... I have saved $114,000. Additionally, I am still alive. Not bad for an old fool, eh?

@Dick_Martin, I almost did the math. I think I should treat myself to something nice. And, CONGRATS to you--not bad at all, not bad at all!

Congratulations! The traditional 20th anniversary gift is china. Buy yourself an ashtray and smash it to pieces.

What a great idea! LOL πŸ™‚

Great job, I'm in my 8th year abstaining from cigarettes. The smell of smoke, residue, and ashes nauseates me, but that's a positive. Again, great job.

What was weird for me was realizing I've not smoked longer than I did. It was difficult, but so worth it!

Happy anniversary!

I quit over fourteen years ago and still want one every now and then. Do you still have the desire for a smoke? By the way congratulations.

i quit with the assistence of a hypnotherapist. never felt a craving ever since.

@walklightly I see you are from down under. I made it to Brisbane when I was in the U.S. Navy.
A friend told me that every time I felt like having a smoke to count to 10 and the urge would go away. He was right.

@Eirteacher, if it works, don't change it.

Luckily, I do not. I can't even be around the smell. I quit by doing yoga and breathing slowly and deeply. I think @Eirteacher is right. I would actually tell myself "If you REALLY want one, you can have one in 5 minutes," and by that time, the urge would pass. (The idea of telling myself "you can never ever smoke again" at the time was too daunting, so that is what helped me.)

Congratulations! Your family no doubt thanks you for choosing to live longer!

Yes, I was the only smoker!

Good on you! I just completed 6 years without the smokes a month ago. I feel very much liberated.

Awesome! Do you celebrate every year?

@orange_girl, what with? a ciggie? a spliff? internally only, letting my lungs flap happily πŸ˜€

@walklightly Oh, no...I was thinking pedicure or massage! πŸ˜‰

@orange_girl, now there's a thought! πŸ™‚

Brilliant, just over 13 years for me

Do you do anything special to celebrate? I feel like I should buy myself a treat.

I often buy myself treats like 2 royal clown loaches that cost Β£160 though I got them cheaper.

I'm envious.

@Acharyasman55, Initially, I didn't want to quit. I had a friend who was in remission from cancer for the second time and she asked me to be her "support person" at yoga class. It was then I realized I couldn't breathe, so I quit. It was bloody awful for two weeks, but I've never looked back. I made a list of things I could do instead of smoking and I also made a list of the reasons why I wanted to quit. I also told myself that I could "do it now or do it later, and it would be much harder later."

I've actually quit myself, twice. The last time for 2 1/2 years. I remember how very much better I felt and am pretty close to putting forth this effort again.

Congratulations ????
Quitting smoking is no easy task.

Giving up sugar was more difficult, but quitting smoking is a close second.

That's fantastic! Good on you!
