Do you guys believe in luck?
In a period of time in life, there is nothing good coming to me.
I believe in luck more than any God.

I do not believe in luck Julius, I think things happen randomly in life and there is this "law of probability" that will make that someone wins the lottery, someone will die in an accident caused by a drunken bastard, or your plane will crash. There's nothing we can do to prevent it, like an asteroid crushing with Earth...what you're gonna do? Just keep living without apprehension.
You cannot change things, but you can improve your chances if you work on the right way towards something you want.

No I don't believe in luck, belief in something has to have a certain reliability or potential, luck is random. Although in regards to training or practising for something, as Gary Player said 'The harder you practise the luckier you get' 🙂

Of course. If you don't ask yourself why some people always win something and other's don't.

Not so much luck as effort and conditional certainties, like being in the right place at the right time and doing or saying the right thing which may bring about a change in 'luck' life circumstances.

I wonder what Confucius or Zhuangzi would have said about the notion of luck, I do not wonder what Sun Tzu would have said about luck,甚麼

It's reasonable to believe in luck, just realize you're dealing with probabilities.

Exactly. Luck is math, not magic.

I am 66 now, I have some health issues.....and I've lost a lot of friends. But I do remember it seemed like for years life was out to GET ME. I never got a break. I was in the music business......(wow. fo way too long too)....and the computer field......and when I look at back at everything, i didn't do so bad. BUT wow.......it works on your mind and soul. And if your lover dumps you it's even worse, hard on the self-esteem. Seems like I always was
"singing the blues" over some stupid chic. WHOA.....what a waste of energy.

It was always trying to find a better job, get better pay.....on and on......well, you have to stay sober.....be on time.....and you have to find some kind of skill so you can generate some cash. When you are always looking over your shoulders just trying to pay the bills every month.......it can get to be a real drag. Today, you need about $180,000 a year go live a decent life. It' s getting really stupid out there. You ain't gonna do it working at McDonalds.....or WALMART.......so it is tuff out there.....competitive......

BUT after years.....some things happen......and then it changed....it's not like i'm in paradise.....but life does getting smoother......and things that were once important, are no longer important. As you get older, you have very very few real friends......and you get used to being alone. Everybody is so stressed out, you just get involved in there bullshit and they started bringing you down. I read this thing once, it said at first you worry about what everybody thinks about you, then after a while, i don't care what anybody thinks about you.....THEN YOU GET TO THE POINT WHERE......YOU FINALLY REALIZE.....NOBODY THINKS ABOUT YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! It's like a dog chasing its tail.

I"m on Social Security, i have a little extra money coming in......subbing in schools....i'm not gonna die......don't see any foxy women coming in on the horizon......but that isn't important anymore. I can stil sit at the piano and blow some beautiful tunes......gonna look at getting some restaurant gigs....blow some old standards....

You have to fight depression.....go the gym....run, jog, work out...read a book.....go to movies......do something you like......do until you get bored with it....then find something else to do....take up painting, wood working...

I can pretend I playing in front of 60,000 people......and the rush of it all.....ha ha..

$180k a year??? Wow... you need a reality check.. lmao

@Captain_Feelgood do we need more???? I'm in North Carolina, who's buying all these new houses coming up? They are all over 500, 000 apiece? 100 grand ain't enough in California.....for sure....

If I didn't have pretty shitty luck I wouldn't believe in it. But as that blues number goes, "if it wasn't for real bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all."

I agree we mostly make our own luck and nothing supernatural is involved. Like karma, it's mostly the result of cause and effect and/or self fulfilling confirmation bias based on our ego and what we think we deserve.

I do believe there's an element of timing that's important to straighten out to improve ones bad luck. Sometimes you just get born a hair early or late or get in a rush or too lazy to move. It sets you ahead or behind in your course and that can make all the difference in your fortune for ill or good. I was born 2 weeks late and feel like I still haven't caught up. Just had to get those few extra winks in.

I agree with you.......sometimes I believe in Karma....other times I don't. It can be pretty brutal....

Good luck, bad luck... random occurrences

Absolutely....

The harder you practice, the luckier you get.

You should study number theory. A branch of mathematics that is as close to explaining random chance and luck. In short there is not.

I believe that sometimes things go my way and sometimes they do not. Sometimes there is a lengthy string of things going my way, or not. Most of the time it's a mix of the two.

It's confirmation bias to label a run of good or bad experiences "luck", if you think that "luck" is somehow externally bestowed upon you by some intentional agency.

Regarding luck, I was thinking that in a "sport" I enjoy, pocket billiards, it is customary for opponents to shake hands before a match and say, "good luck." Some people, not believing in luck or not wanting luck to play a part, say something like, "shoot well." I think both are "white" lies. Both opponents want to win and will take it whether it comes from their skill, the other person's lack of skill, or because of "luck." And, in billiards, there is no luck involved. The balls react to the way they are hit. I've been trying to come up with a better thing to tell my opponent before a match -- something honest -- but haven't thought of something good yet...

What about something like”I hope you do well but I hope that I do better”

@Geoffrey51 I like that! Thanks!

I believe in cause and efecct, i hope it help.

I do too. You have to stay a good person, and try NOT to be in a place where someone is gonna hit you in the face for no reason at all.

@FlyingEagle1952 I know the sentiment, i am a latino with an accent living in the bible belt, some people are difficult to interact with.

If luck is factors contributing to success or failure not in your control, then yes, I believe those occur. But, as @snytiger6 wrote, people usually make their own luck.

1

As they say, for the most part, peopel make their own luck, good or bad.

some people are just good at making their own path........I was nice to people and got fucked in the ass.....it is important to protect yourself......invest in yourself....and move forward. They will trample you.

@FlyingEagle1952 I hated working in the corporate world. Large employers means the back stabbers get rewarded, or you could say "Assholes get promoted first". You can do a great job, work hard, and someone will sabotage you just to make you look bad.
