In a discussion, I overheard the difference between Republicans and Democrats. What do you think?

Republicans claim to be patriots and claim their freedom. they cite the Bible with gun in hand. In the meantime, capitalism and too big to fail companies, remove that ability to compete and exploit through over expensive insurance, healthcare, and price-fixing. Republicans claim to be free but reality is they are not.

Democrats realize they are not free and fight the establishment in order to create an environment where exploitation is reduced or not possible, fighting for the freedom to compete. This is through living wages, breaking up big corporations, and making progress with opportunities for all.

Again, what do you think?

I agree on the Repugs but you are far too idealistic about the Democrats. They've sold us out plenty of times.

That's a reasonable assumption .

I think it's a matter of which group will exercise their particular strategies of control of the masses to please their financial backers. Republicans chose to use coercion and Democrats consent of the populace.

While some pointed out, it is not a full explanation, to me what is important is how in touch with reality are both parties? Are they governing based on ideology or based on knowledge and facts. I think both can improve there but the dems are definitely closer to reality.

  • We need immigration (our birth rate is too low)
  • We cannot let money govern politics.
  • Guns hurt people
  • Trickle down economics mostly do not work for everyone
  • Wage disparity is an issue
  • Universal healthcare is important, all other civilized countries have realized that.
  • Society will never cease to progress, you have to govern with that in mind.

So while it is not complete, I agree.

Your description of the choices are not complete and nuanced enough so to agree or disagree with them is futile.

That just about hits it. I will fight forever for you to be born. (I need your vote.) Once you are born you are totally on your own.

Democrats accept dualism and are able to think selflessly. Republicans do not and think of themselves and their own first. Democrats can be we thinkers while republicans are only me thinkers.

Empathy. Republicans desire to use it as little as possible Democrats over use it at times and perhaps it's true use should to be somewhere in the middle. I will always be a Democrat because if these are the only two choices it's best not to let the vulnerable suffer and err on the side of empathy overuse always. At least lives will be saved that way. These two parties are like night and day with very little similarities.

You can say that again.

@godef lol... I deleted my duplication. Hahaha! Thanks.

It's not possible to declare 'Republicans are X, Democrats are Y' because both Republicans and Democrats vary greatly.

However there do seem to be some VAGUE common factors. In general Republicans enjoy taking large amounts of money from big business, and sell themselves to get it - so do many Democrats, though maybe slightly fewer. Republicans often display bigotry and intollerance - Democrats are often bigotted too, but perhaps less often.

To be honest there's far less difference between the two than many would claim.

no, there is far more difference than most would realize. we're talking about politicians now, not the voters. people vote as they do for a variety of reasons. the republican party has a POLICY of deceit and catering only to the rich. individual democrats may be corrupt but when the party discovers this, the corrupt one is ousted. when the republicans find a corrupt member, they promote him. not joking!

look at their platforms. look at their votes. WAY different.

g

@genessa you nailed it

While I agree about republicans I don't give the dems a pass on greed and being corporate shills.

no group is free of corrupt individuals. the difference is, as i have said above, that as a GROUP, the democratic party weeds out its corrupt ones as they're found. the republicans embrace theirs. the republican party is a corrupt entity. the democratic party is not. that's not giving them a pass. that's recognizing reality.

g

@genessa Not sure about how much the Democrats weed out the corrupt. More than the Republicans, yes because they keep their corruption out front and center. But I do feel like the Democrats play the game and will do what they need to get the money. Overall, they are the better party. But that is still not good enough for me.

@GreatNani i am sorry to hear it. any large group will have problems. i think the democrats are basically good. remember too what voltaire said: the perfect is the enemy of the good.

g

@commie1776 sorry, you want me to prove a negative? please elaborate on how the party -- not individual members, as will happen with any large group, but the PARTY, is corrupt! and while you're at it, please elaborate on how you're not a [fill in blank with whatever you don't want to be accused of]. unfair? burden of proof. look where it falls.

g

@commie1776 the republican party is actually a criminal organization posing as a political party. its every move is calculated to keep itself in power and flush, and not, for example, to indulge in actual public service. this is an unusual thing in america. yes, that party is corrupt and the democratic party, as an entity, is not. it's not a matter of "certain parties." it's a specific party. i've NEVER voted republican. i never liked republican policies. i never until now thought the party itself was corrupt. maybe it wasn't. nixon was. reagan was. but the whole party? but now... yes. the whole party.

i have heard it put more simply: republicans don't care about what other people experience unless it happens to them too, or someone they love. no gay rights -- unless my son is gay. no immigration -- unless my wife is mexican. guns are not a problem -- unless it's my kid's school that gets shot up. "no one needs health care as long as i have health care" and "i don't care about that bad thing unless it happens to me." democrats say "i need health care and everyone else needs it too" and "that bad thing shouldn't happen to ANYONE."

g

Exactly.

Yes exactly!
