They may have decimated homo sapiens but the world would carry on regardless. There have been times when advanced life has almost been extinguished in five mass extinctions and we could be heading for another. Peter Brannen in his book "The ends of the world" discusses them in detail. A fascinating read which should be compulasy reading for climate change sceptics.

There should be 6. I’m just saying that if you were to believe some people you’d swear that the day that Cheeto took office was the end of the fucking world.
Hell it’s been more than two years and the survivors Hiroshima and Nagasaki didn’t fucking cry this even after the first year.
So yeah I think that they to make it 6

If you do some digging, there have been myriad predictions of the end of the world.
I've seen such lists in the ballpark of around 100ish.
