One QUARTER of Americans (25%)have not
had sex in past year.
Source NPR's "wait ,wait don't tell
me". No wonder suicide is up . Is
America becoming more Puritanical?

No. We are in menopause.

Surely you mean "sex in the company of another person"? ????

There's alot of mental health problems in the US and many people are medicated or self medicate which lowers the libido. Also, allegedly young people are having sex less than in previous generations, whether religious or atheist, so that may factor in as well.

No, women are becoming more picky.

... so are (some) men.

I miss the 70's, 80's and even the 90's as they relate to this subject. Glad l was there. 🙂

Reasons Why We’re Having Less Sex

Technology: In the bedroom, couples are spending more time looking at their devices than each other.

Health: Many medications and chronic health problems have sexual side effects. Some cancer survivors, in particular, have to cope with the sexual side effects caused by cancer treatment.

“I would say the number one cause for a lack of sex is fatigue,” Pepper Schwartz, a sociology professor at the University of Washington, told the Washington Post, which first reported the findings.

“You have many more women and men working to create a two-income family to stay middle class or above … People’s minds are occupied with things other than the physical connection, and that has increased in modern life, and especially from the ’80s and ’90s and forward.”

...& thanks;I saw a study that said
married "bliss" was 2 x a week ; but
my perspective was stasis & mental health.
As they study these stats, they should
publish the repercussions,as they will affect society in the future.

I don't think it has as much to do with puritanical beliefs, but more of an outcome of people becoming more alienated from one another. A sense of community is in decline, public trust is eroding, and we are working longer hours. It's hard to connect with others in that environment. Of course life is one big Rorschach test. The interpretation of it says more about the interpretor than the thing being observed. So what do I know? I'm a sexual camel. I haven't drank from that oasis in awhile.

...it seems the happiest countries
make recreation a priority,not ours.

I've got a fun wife and we make sex a high priority. If something happened to her, it would take a while to get back in. I lost a love to a drunk driver in my twenties and except for a couple of drunken one times I was celibate for three years. Sex is cool but there's a lot more to it than a fuck/not fuck binary.
