I just thought I would post an expansion of the comment I made to @HippieChick58 as I think it would be of interest to us all.

Level 9 is "only" 200,000 points. Level 10 is FIVE TIMES that!
To get to your level of 9, you had to achieve the equivalent of reaching level 8 four times, yet level 8 at one time was our dream achievement.
It just goes to demonstrate that even we atheists have greed - the more we have, the more we desire!

I'm not here to get points. I'm here because I love this community, I love the discussions that pop up, I love learning new stuff, and I love the give and take. I've been part of this community for almost 18 months. Yes, maybe I'd have finished more books if I spent less time on here, or made another quilt or two, but this site connects me to actual people. I consider it time well spent. The site is going to be what you make of it, I've seen plenty of people come and go, such is life. I don't remember when I achieved level 9, but I once calculated I'd hit level 10 about the time I retire. Once that happens I will still be here, posting and discussing to my heart's content, only possibly with more time to be here. Who knows, maybe Admin will add a level 11...

..... level 11, 1 billion points?

I noticed that as well.

I've backed off quite a bit but when I saw myself a few hundred from 7.9, I went on a posting spree for a few days.

Will probably do the same when I get near 8

I was all excited to get to level 8. At this point, though, it's just not worth it to me to pursue level nine. The amount of unnecessary posting, and commenting, and time wasting that it would involve just makes me not care anymore how many points I have. I got the tee shirt... I'm good.

You're now in "cruise" mode. Surprisingly, though, the points continue to add up - slowly.

Or not just points

I don't pay attention to the points...I just enjoy commenting and liking and finding interesting pictures and things to post...I look at it as one big conversation during the day with lots of different people on lots of different things from politics to babies!

I got a t-shirt along the way...but other than that, I am along for the ride for fun

We all are, but I bet you still sneak the occasional peek at your points!

@Petter your status is in plain sight on the purple bar...no need for sneaking 🙂

@thinktwice So you're quite happy with a recently achieved 8.4 status, and don't sneak a peek to see how far to go to 8.5 (125,000 points - half way between 8 and 9)

@Petter Nope...I prefer to be competitive in other ways...weight lifting, for instance...I should have refused the t-shirt as well...the "perks" don't motivate me and I really don't have any use for them...materially or otherwise...

@thinktwice I wear the shirt when I know there are god-botherers about. It's like having garlic in the presence of vampires. (I know that works, because no vampire has ever bothered me in the slightest.)
However, I adore my ball point pen.

Greed? Nonsense.

Points come from people commenting on our posts and participating in lively discussions. From posting interesting questions and news stories.

It's FUN! That's rewarding.

....and you're not greedy for the extra perks? Not to mention the seratonin!

Greed? What greed? The points come with activity... It's just a measurement... Points have no value...

What ?!?!
No value?
I was planning on cashing them out for my retirement!
😉
