Impeachment fizzles against Trump

Trump wins again against weak democrats. No matter how deep troubles and wrongdoing Trump is in every time, he is able to beat democrats in the political game. It is amazing how bad democrats are.

Oh please. Why would they bother with an attempt to impeach that will just fizzle in the Senate?
Now, even if they lose the next presidential election, if they win the Senate (which is fairly likely) they've kept their powder dry, and can nail Trump to the wall.

They want to do to make a statement and satisfy their progressive base that Democrats they elected are not lame duck. The base is crying out for impeachment. The members of Congress know fully well it is not going anywhere. It is all political positioning before 2020.

Don’t be quite so sure about that.

If they were good they would become Republicans.

Your analysis advances Trump's agenda. Give Pelosi more credit. She has more political wisdom than you or I do. Let the process play out, as it should.

Pelosi's wisdom is not working. Democrats are looking weak and Trump is winning now and will win in 2020. There is nothing Pelosi can do to win now or prevent Trump from winning in 2020. Pelosi has been around for 40 years and we have seen terrible defeats under her watch. She did nothing to prevent Hillary Clinton's terrible loss. She has become a career Washington insider. We need a younger and energetic House Speaker and other leaders who do less friction and more agreement. I am tired of seeing her plastic, fake smile and animated walking on the stage. She does nothing to inspire democrats. In Boris Johnson's terms.... she is like a sadistic nurse in a mental hospital.

@St-Sinner I disagree strongly. We will see who is correct.

Unfortunately, this is quite true.If Trump were a Democrat the Republicans would have already impeached him by now. The Democrats believe he will lose the next election. He won't, and when he is elected to a second term the Democrats will have no one to blame but themselves.

@OldMetalHead It is up to EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US to do our damnedest to make sure that he is not re=elected. Don't despair. DO SOMETHING!

I don't give a fuck about Trump, but most Trump haters are mindless idiots. Pat yourself on the back by saying Trump is an idiot....go on, I know you want to.

I agree with you. What bugs me the most is Trump haters are just one sided. They hate everything on the other side and cannot find anything good. A smart human being learns from the enemy. We also ignore how bad our side is and what our failures have been. Hillary lost miserably, was a terrible candidate who let us down in spite of huge fund raising, massive volunteers working for her on the ground and after good, honest 8 years of Obama, she wasted it all... But you will not hear it from progressives. A balanced view is not our forte. We do not realize how stupid we look.

It has been said that if you are just filled with hatred and spew it day in and day out, your face and expressions will change overtime, it will manifest in your personality, it creates a negative energy..... LOL

@St-Sinner Hillary was a terrible candidate. Jeb Bush was terrible. Trump was terrible, and worse, but who cares at this point?

Trumpism will only go away when Americans get bored of it (or if the economy crashes and Trump is unable to effectively pin it on someone/something else). Hating it, pointing out lies, corruption, and incompetence isn't moving the needle any. A huge number of Americans simply don't care, for many different reasons.

@St-Sinner Yes. The easiest people to manipulate. It's the left's game. So sleazy. It's why I left the left (for you morons, it doesn't mean I'm right wing). Of course no one wants to be a racist or bigot, we all want equality, but to pander to the weak minded is a disgusting.

An NPR/PBS poll had his approval rating at a new high of 44% on Monday following his racist tweets (several polls show most Americans also think the tweets were racist).

The problem with impeachment is the American people. They seem to be mostly apathetic, uninformed, and misinformed. The rest are easily angered by the wrong things and led by the nose.

If Trump's numbers were in the low 30's, or in the 20's, there may be some traction. Otherwise Republicans in the Senate have tied their lucky stars to Trump.

This article nails the impotent and feckless Democrats.

Impeachment isn't the road - my take. And, fuck yea, I want him gone. The current Senate protects him. Need no reason to rile his base - keep pushing discord; keep shoving his immorality in their faces - INVESTIGATE (26 Benghazi investigations say something, only here ther is evidence). Get out the vote and turn around the iffy independents. Stand united, no matter who the fuck gets the nomination. Be a big boy or girl and don't whine if your person doesnt get to run (my pick decided not to run). I'd be thrilled to vote for Bernie, but if he doesn't make it, NEXT.

I think your takeaway here is wrong.

It's a matter of realism on the part of the House Democrats to consider that, even if they impeach Trump, the Republican-dominated Senate will never, ever convict him, no matter how glaring his guilt. And it is glaring. Trump very clearly committed obstruction of justice, and a Republican questioning Mueller basically scored an own goal and had Mueller come out and say so in his testimony. Trump can be charged and go to prison after he leaves office. It's only his status as a sitting president and the DOJ guidelines that prevented him from being charged months ago.

It's the weakness of Republicans, who put their party loyalty above the law and their nation, that stands out here. Their fear of offending Trump and his partisans is sheer cowardice. They've done incalculable damage to our nation and it's impossible to guess where it might end.

After a political event, the takeaway that people remember is who won and who lost. Strategists on both sides and political pundits may do the analysis but voters and people in general don't. They will vote on issues and personalities but are watching everything.

After Clinton, we found out in spite of Clinton abusing the sanctity of the Oval Office and lying under oath, people were angry that republicans pursued the vindictive investigations and impeachment for too long instead of doing people's business.

I believe, voters are again angry with Washington and it will add votes to Trump in 2020.

@St-Sinner Clinton got a hummer from an intern.

Trump's campaign fed research to a foreign power which then interfered in our election, basically cheating on his behalf. He wouldn't be president except for that. Since when he has cozied up to the head of that power on every opportunity.

I have to think Americans are intelligent enough to see the difference.

@Paul4747
Can we say both did wrong to the nation? Ii is not right to underplay our mistakes. Do you not think that fixing our house on fire should be our priority instead of laughing at the paint of the neighbor's house? When we go to war, we do not ridicule and laugh at the enemy. We prepare to win. What I see now that we have weak and frail generals against Trump who will destroy all Democratic 2020 candidates.

@Paul4747 "I have to think Americans are intelligent enough to see the difference." I am not as optimistic as you but if you are correct, they need to get to the voting booth on election day and demonstrate it.

@St-Sinner
Clinton certainly sullied the dignity of the office. Trump has wiped his ass with it.
There is still testimony to be heard from others involved in the investigation, but probably nothing will come of it.

Since the non prosecution of Nixon, we have failed to hold presidents accountable.

Reagan should have been convicted in the Iran/Contra mess.
George H W Bush was complicit in that scandal as well as drug smuggling from South America and was saved by non other than William Barr.

We’ve covered Clinton.

George W Bush with the help of Cheney lied us into a war and ordered to commission torture and other war crimes.

Obama’s drone war and the execution of an American citizen without a trial could certainly be investigated.

Will we ever hold our leaders accountable for their actions?

Democrats just do not seem to be able to get it together. Of course, neither can Donald Stump. His party members will do anything to stay in power.

Democrats have better ideas for the nation but are such bad performers. Democrats have become this elite, nerdish, policy and bookish people that we have forgotten how to connect with people. We have the same old, bald, spectacled Washington insiders running for offices for decades, the same people become advisors, think tank experts, ambassadors, lobbyists... the same boring and failed people.

@TheMiddleWay This makes sense. I find many that believe if Bernie was POTUS tomorrow we would all instantly be socialist. This is either ignorance or someone trying to protect Trump in ways that only Trump's gaslighting brings to fore. In my view Trump wants you to hate the other party. This is his brand of unity and goes along with his following. When Reagan said "Make America Great Again" it did not work that way.
