**Anybody understand cat talk?
A big ginger cat lives opposite my house, he's usually sitting chilling, as cats do, when our eyes meet he raises his head slowly and closes his eyes, lowering it and opening them again! Any ideas?
He’s saying”I’ve got the measure of you and you have nothing I need so don’t bother trying to engage with me”
Giving me the finger then!
it means he thinks he's better than you.
Yes, I think so too!
Yup. That is the "slow blink". It means he's feeling relaxed with you. You're accepted as OK or a friend. You can slow blink back (if you don't feel too weird doing it LOL).
It works.
@bigpawbullets Yes it does. I work with other people’s cats (boarding) and also with stray and feral cats. Slow blink can be a useful tool. Plus I have 15 cats of my own so I communicate with cats all the time.
Its like a communication protocol. They look at you and see if you return their blink.
@PondartIncbendog They do. Sometimes I initiate it to show that I’m friendly and mean no harm.
I do, I do,do do do! Thanks
Closing his eyes is a sign that he accepts you.
It means he trusts you and acknowledges that you're part of his pack.
@Allamanda I hope we are just friendly neighbors! At least we don't want to eat each other
