I think back sometimes on my years of indoctrination, and I was thinking today about all the grown ups around me saying God told me to do this or that, or God is really speaking to me. I used to ask my mom what it was like to have God talk to you. She said it was like a still small voice, which I though was odd because in the movies, it was always a huge booming voice from the sky.
This was the first thing that caused doubt. I never heard God's voice. After years of questions, it was finally revealed that people were having their own thoughts and attributing it to a god. Nobody was hearing God speak to them.
For years I thought I was unworthy because I wasn't hearing from the god, but truth is, I was just like everyone else, but I was just admitting I didn't hear it.

The idea of "hear" a voice in the head is really interesting to me as I have aphantasia for all 5 senses. I often wonder if this has something to do with me never hearing this voice (or any voice) in my head. If you don't know, aphantasia describes a condition where you don't experience 1 or more senses in the mind (e.g. can't picture an apple in your mind's eye). Can hearing this voice as studied through this field shine some light on why some people hear gods talking to them but are not schizophrenics? Sorry, you got me in a curious mood this morning.

I hear the voice of Don Quixote telling me to tilt at windmills! 😛

It always worries me when politicians claim that God has spoken to them. If you're hearing voices, then the only office you should be in is one with rubber wallpaper.

I understand. In my church days I recall a sermon where it was preached that "you are nobody until god calls your name." People were blubbering and crying like babies, throwing their hands up in the air, etc. It was near pandemonium. Afterwards people would give accounts of god calling their name.

At a much later time I am at an apartment complex working on my car. As I lay under the car I think I hear someone calling my name. People who heard me talk of this later said it might be god. OK. How many people have my name and why did god wait til I was laying underneath my car at an apartment complex? Yeah, that all made perfect sense. Should I start crying and hold my hands up in the air?

I tried praying for god and actually tried a few times to make a deal with the devil. Neither posted. Still no Schwinn bike with the banana seat after 50 years. Fuckers!

You got it all wrong. This is how it's done.

You took the words right out of my mouth! I grew up in the Methodist church & became an atheist at 22 years old. #goodwithoutgod

You’re kind of lucky god did not choose to talk to you.

Are you, as an agnostic or atheist, comfortable with the idea that human consciousness is beyond human understanding? I'm not.

It's a function of the human brain. At the rate computers are becoming more and more powerful, it won't be too many more years until there's a computer with consciousness.

I worked with a guy who said god talked to him. He never shut up about his religion. Drove me crazy! I always thought he was crazy!

PSSST! He was crazy😀
