It is more unusual these days to see somebody who does not have their "device" in their hand than one who does. It has become a matter of self importance, for the weak minded, to demonstrate that they are needed by others, social media is now an epidemic of huge proportion, what I bought whilst shopping, what I had for breakfast or dinner, not really of any importance but essential it seems. People now haven't time for the big issues like who is running our country? It is the same people who gave you social media to divert your minds with consumerism, the rich control your lives without you even knowing it, wake up world!

Perhaps the way social media is employed is only an extension of how a person lives as a whole, and we're giving it too much credit? I can certainly learn a lot about the big issues via my electronics, but I haven't figured out how to use it to sway the masses to my way of thinking.

Oooook... but reading a paper filled book is somehow more acceptable? Why? I can carry 1000+ ebooks in my phone and I don't give a rat's ass who "sees" me reading them. WTH?

Not my point really! It's just that people are losing their ability to communicate face to face, I find it very sad!
@Austin-Cambridge Oh, sry to misunderstand. F2F will hopefully always be an important part of life, but, I sometimes wonder.
I do not have a smart phone but I usually take my old Blackberry with me if I drive any distance. I have a reliable car now but years ago before cell phones I drove old bangers that were very likely to break down and never gave it a thought. Sad.

IT has become a socialised act to be constantly on a device to the distraction of all else. Borderline addictive behaviour.

I like your reaction, It's quite sad when you see a family seated in a cafe for a drink or lunch and they are all occupied with their devices and ignore everything else going on around them, even their kin!
