NC Republicans making their case that laws should be based on [their personal reading of] the Bible, in this case to ignore the U S. Supreme Court about marriage equality.
[friendlyatheist.patheos.com]
The cherry on top here is both lawmakers' blatantly undiplomatic responses to their upset constituent. Until Republicans as a party stop acting like theocrats, it makes no sense whatsoever for any self-respecting atheist to support them. 😜

Here is what they want:

β€œI do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.” (1 Timothy 2:12)
No freedom for women.

β€œHappy is he who repays you for what you have done to us – he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.” (Psalm 137:9)
Smash babies against rocks.

β€œIn the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error.” (Romans 1:27)
Gays not allowed.

β€œSlaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the cruel.” (1 Peter 2:18 )
bring back slavery, even if your master sucks.

"Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it." (Malachi 2:3)
and of course this list would be incomplete without impotence and spreading shit on people's faces.

These assholes (republicans) want it both ways. They are such monumental
hypocrites.
They get their panties in a bunch over "States' Rights", but they'll support that
orange shitstain when he threatens to withhold federal money for infrastructure,
i.e. Highway funds for California.

How ANYONE can continue to support the republican party, or 45, makes no
sense.
Both of the responding "lawmakers" are in clear violation of their Oaths of Office.
They both swore to uphold the US Constitution, as well as that of North Carolina.
If the US Supreme Court says Marriage Equality is the Law, then it's the LAW.
They, nor their citizenry, get to disregard that law just because they believe their
bullshit religion says so.
Their "understanding" of the Constitution is also faulty.
The 14th Amendment guarantees that ALL Americans are EQUAL under the
law and ALL rights (including marriage) apply to them.

I'm so over all of this bullshit.
North Carolina republicans are fucked in the head.

YES! They are idiots, or at the very least, willfully ignorant of Constitutional law. Supreme Court rulings ARE Constitutional law, regardless of whether or not the original documents includes a particular word.

Sounds reminiscent of Alabama and Roy Moore. Gotta love everyone shoving their religion down our throats.

7

You'd think they never heard of separation of church and state.

I have heard them say that doesn't apply to Christians.

Some will apply that concept to every church EXCEPT their own, which they regard as pure "truth," not as religion. Yeah. πŸ˜’ Feel free to vomit now.

Why should a law be passed against people wanting to be together. It's insane. Everyone is different and we need to be tolerant of differences. We cannot dictate using god phrases as an excuse to benefit a few to be against the rest. Religion is a load of $#!, and yes a dollar sign at the beginning of $#! because "your" religion dictates through your money too - "in god we trust"!!! All make belief and control over people!!! Let people be with whom they wish to be with. That is freedom and democracy.

This is when I really wished there was a Hell... So these politicians would end up there!

That should be very evident. This includes any religious person who has any sense. The bible can be interpreted in any subjective you please.

Those two religious representative dick-nuts don't make any logical sense!
Did they check their brains at the door at birth?
State Rep. Speciale said: "America was founded on Judeo/Christian principles ... This isn’t about religion, this is about what is right."

Holy BS, I believe my head just spun in a complete circle!
If the Marriage Amendment Reaffirmation Act ISN'T ABOUT RELIGION (in his words), then how come Rep. Speciale claimed that America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles as the justification for what is right about the amendment? What is worse, this country was never founded solely on Judeo-Christian principles, but on freedom of any religion (Ex. Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster).

Christian logic = Oxymoron. Might as well be jumbo shrimp.

Welcome to NC - more nonsense every freaking single day!

Too bad you can't move here beaches in a blue state with good people and tolerant of others

2

Their insistence on mixing that printed word with their personal whims is what makes their religion so much like anarchy.

Scary people.

Religion is based on a dictatorship. The one and only god is a dictator and nobody gets to vote on any issue because it is all pre-desided by the dictator/ god. This is why the religious can not run a democracy - their have been taught as children to obey a dictator whose rule is absolute. When the religious get into office they toss democracy out the window to follow their religion as followers of the dictating god. Since the god does not speak, the church becomes the dictator in place of the god in the god complete and utter absence and then tries to enforces any imagined god rules through their controlled followers in public offices. Every religious person thinks a dictators is controlling everything in the universe if they believe in a god. The religious are not fit for public office because they will never understand what a democracy is or what it stands for.

1

It makes my head spin, how easily they forget that they were elected to represent all their constituents, now just the ones that worship the same god/book as they do. Or maybe they just don't care, they think they were divinely elected which gives them full authority to enforce their beliefs on the population as a whole.

Sadly, I think your last statement hit the nail on the head. They are in holy war mode.

1

Glad they've moved on from the transgender bathroom crisis. Or have they?

Temporary pause. Too many targets require juggling of attention. Bless their shrivelled hearts. Bleh.

1

I agree totally and I do not support them. I am non-delusional.

BTW, anyone who wants to use my below listed anti-Trump words please feel free to do so.

Tim Apple.
Tim Cook Apple real fast.
Tim loves cooked apples
.

It is when you defend that sort of nonsense from a leader and add religion that you know we are all in trouble.

1

FFS, the bigoted, arrogant, intolerance of people like those is simply Unbelievable in my honest opinion.
Hasn't anyone bothered to INFORM them THAT MAN made god, the MAn created/imagined the Laws that they then CLAIMED, falsely btw, were the 'Words' of the god THEY created and NOT the other way round?

1

they can try all they want, they can make all the points they want for this bullcrap. our constitution does NOT allow church and government together period, if they some how got something like that, the supreme court would be forced to remove it right away from the law books. its not just republicans wanting to do this kinda crap, its both sides, i am so tired of bible this and bible that from our government. Washington would turn over in his grave.

You have more faith in the courts than I do. They are increasingly stacked with conservatives, thanks to Mitch McConnell's appalling Machiavellian tactics.

1

It time to rid this country of all these insane Obstructionist republican!

They do not have and never have had the interests of the people of this country at hand!

It is time the majority of us who do not believe in racism, sexual discrimination, and destruction of our safeguards and protections we have earned over the 242 years to eradicating these Obstructionist republicans in the same manner that their are eradicating our very right to live in a clean wholesome environment without fear of extermination and enslavement!!!

New testament wimps.

Give me some old testament eye for an eye, cutting off heads.

That's the kind of religious fervor I want to see in a political.

A lot less thee and thou and a heaping amount of smiting.
